@chemistry, Probably have to show status when you actually buy the pass, and they lock it after three days when you have to get junior another test.
Will be interesting if cases suddenly go over 200 in the middle of the week. 100s, if not 1000s, of teenage kids' passes are suddenly no longer valid so need a test the following morning.....
Given most people catch CV at home socialising rather than passing some random masked-up person on a ski lift/shop/restaurant, I can't see the logic in things like the PS beyond 'encouraging' people to be vaccinated. Epidemiologically, if you wanted to stop cases rocketing (E.g. Germany, Austria), you'd start by stopping people mixing indoors at home-not stopping someone from using a ski lift.

For Italy Green pass for single vaccinated teenagers - I found one possible explanation as to why some get a red cross for single vaccinated teenagers and others get a blue tick. See question here https://github.com/ministero-salute/it-dgc-verificaC19-android/issues/115 . From what it looks like, the 1st vaccination is only seen as valid for 42d post vaccination after which in Italy you are supposed to get the 2nd dose. My son is outside the 42d window - hence red. This whole thing is just such a minefield even once you have a first vaccine QR code..

For the individuals involved, I can see that. Very small numbers of healthy youngsters seem to suffer much as a result of catching COVID. I think JCVI's mandate is to advise on medical side of things and not take into account impact on education, the economy, holidays. I don't know whether countries that chose double vaccination for their younger people had similar advice but, at a political level, decided to overrule it or whether their medical advice differed.
A rapid turnaround by the JCVI send unlikely as, in September, they commented "As longer-term data on potential adverse reactions accrue, greater certainty may allow for a reconsideration of the benefits and harms. Such data may not be available for several months."
It looks like any change that might help this winter would have to be at a political level but would UK government want to be seen to preform a u-turn and overrule the experts?

I know that in Germany the medical advice is that the benefit of double jabbing teenagers very much outweighs the risk. Assume it’s the same in other countries. UK is an outlier.

You would assume (and that’s a risky mindset) that if you have bought a lift pass and proven you are all in the clear at that point, the lift operator could be confident that the users were okay to use the lift. Also lift operators are quite up to speed with checking things at the bottom of lifts so I’m trying to be positive!

@Tiefschneetaucher, +1
Many Twitter threads from academics in the field in our own U.K. institutions who have absolutely demolished the reasoning and studies relied on on the JCVI minutes (once they finally released them, much delayed…)
At the very least we/our teenagers should be offered choice.

My sons dates from 26th Aug, and still works fine with it (blue tick).
My daughter turns 16 next week, so her’s should then be available on the NHS app - I’ll try that one too and report back.

That's a good example of the advice changing. Originally, the German equivalent of JCVI recommended only vaccinating 12-15 yo who had underlying conditions. A couple of weeks later, they changed this as Delta began to spread and having re-analysed the data.
It would be interesting to know why JCVI hasn't done similar. Have they just not looked at the issue again or have they done so and reaffirmed their original decision? I don't think we've been told.

I cancelled our accomodation yesterday as last day of free cancellation and have booked another to give me another 2 weeks to work this out!
3 teens all single jabbed. One has re overt within last 90 days. 2 don’t.
So 2 need pcr every 72 hours in resort? And predeparture less than 24 hrs (on Christmas Day for us!)i just can’t see this happening.
What do we think are likelihood of a rule change for UK teens ? I have 2 more weeks to cancel or pay full amount!

I emailed our apartment last week to ask for an extension of the free cancellation period and they deferred it for another month. I got the impression that they were as concerned as we were and would rather have an active booking than a cancelled one.

It means that a PS or test will be needed for chairlifts as well as current rules for restaurants etc.

Think we're in the same boat - Xmas in Austria is off completely but I thought Andorra was on until I realised we'd need to do a PCR for our 12yo on Xmas day... as you point out, very tricky. Flying to ~Spain could be easier, seems they are happy with a test taken in the preceding 72hrs. It's a bloody minefield...

@Rednat5, antigen tests will suffice for both pre-travel and for PS while in France (but the tests in France have to be done at the pharmacie/test centre etc)

Hi, can I just clarify if the pre departure tests done in the uk for travel to France ( so needs to be done within 24 hours of travel), can be used domestically once we get there (for 48 hours) Or do we have to get the teens another test as soon as we get into France? (Which then lasts 72 hours)

@Averagejoe, as I understand it technically U.K. tests are not part of PS as they don’t come with a QR code for the EU system.
In practice I have heard some hoteliers etc allowing them to be used to check in but very much anecdotal.

For France I have been in touch with both our overnight hotel, and our one in La Plagne. Both have confirmed they will accept the test for travel as long as under 72 hours.
So booked a test for 24th Dec as we leave on 25th, and this will last until 27th in theory. Hoping to get another one in resort on 26th to then last 29th, followed by one on 31st to cover us to 3 Jan and home.

I'm a teacher and will send an email to the local lift pass office translated into French by one of my colleagues, to see if they will accept the pre-departure lateral flow we're going to do before flying to France.
I'll post the reply I get (Les Menuires).
Fingers crossed, if only to avoid a big queue first thing on Sunday morning!

Hope so too - but equally important will be the ability to actually prove your vaccinations for 12-15yr olds. I'm hoping its resolved for Feb half term, and thankfully I have another option to exercise for Christmas that will hopefully not require the dreaded QR code.

@Checkflaps,this might work for your teenagers? I have got the Tous Anti Covid App on my phone. I am in Scotland, so England may be different, but I got my 15yr old's vaccination status by going onto the NHS Inform website (just needed to enter her DOB and vaccination date), I then requested a status letter which came in the post in a couple of days. From the letter I uploaded the QR code from that letter onto my "Wallet" on the Anti Covid App. Of course she has only currently had one vaccine so no good for use in restaurants etc in France, BUT the App accepted the QR code and has it displayed as her vaccination status. If your teens are double vaccinated it might work?

Good to know. I did try last week to look at my son's info on his health through NHS England, and sadly, I can see everything, except his COVID jab. Even his recent flu shot was shown.
I'm optimistic that there is enough pressure being applied by many people to get the right people to make a decision. I just fear that for some, this Christmas may not come off as hoped for.
Best of luck to everyone.

Thanks for this - that sounds like it would work as my daughter is double jabbed....if I didn't live in England. Can-t believe they can send a status letter with a QR code in Scotland. Could I use your description of how you went about it to send to my MP as proof it can be done close to home ?
And of course Boris has just promised to get the boosters on the App for everyone else....

This thread has been very useful, so in order to try to assist others, here is our current plan. We are heading to Tignes - leaving the UK on 30th Dec, to start skiing in Tignes 1st Jan.
Both parents will be triple jabbed (but not really relevant). Our details are already in the PS.
Two kids, 12 and 14, both will be double jabbed at least 2 weeks before departure. Interestingly the French count anyone as fully vaccinated as 2nd Jab plus 1 week for AZ, Pfizer and Moderna.
a) Try to get some kind of QR code from the NHS - looks unlikely as the system does not generate a QR code for people under 16.
b) Get confirmation from the GP in writing that both children are double vaccinated (see later point d)
c) I have booked LFT for the kids for lunchtime on Thursday 30th Dec (with a Eurotunnel ETD around 1800).
d) Stay overnight about 1hr into France on Thursday. There is a nearby pharmacy that does the 'conversion' which apparently can issue a vaccination pass from countries where the system is not online. This is not designed for Brits as the NHS app is accepted, and it's explicitly mentioned on the French website, but it's worth a try.
e) Use the UK LFT as proof of negative status for 72 hours after the test for restaurants etc.
f) We have booked accomodation in Bourg on 31st, so hopefully the UK LFT and/or converted vaccine pass will suffice, else get a new LFT.
g) I telephoned the pharmacy in Tignes to try to make test reservations for 2nd Jan for the kids. The lady thought I was mad, as they were only taking bookings for the next day or two. She told me to call back 1 week before, and promised that there would be a good system in place to organise testing. I plan to call back early December and try again.
h) Book regular tests for the kids during the week so that they can join us in all restaurants etc.
We have already booked and received our ski-passes, which do need activation on arrival in Tignes, which will probably be contingent on a negative test by then, if cases have risen above 200.
We will have day 2 tests for at home testing back in the UK, so we can fill in the PLF.
I believe that this covers all bases, and hopefully the situation will have improved somewhat (i.e. by NHS extending QR Code proof to younger people), but this is the worst case scenario. Obviously contingent on all tests returning negative results, having said that, most of the kids' friends have had it, my wife is a doctor on the front line and has been exposed to it many times, and none of us have tested positive yet, so it will be just our luck...
