But
"Earlier this week the specialist scientific council that advises the government recommended that a six-week lockdown was needed in order to halt the spread of coronavirus in France and ensure that the health services could cope.
However on Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that it would be extended for another 15 days."
So we can expect a further exrension.

Still nice in Meribel for our quick snow shoe outing. Pity we are not allowed to ski.

On the radio this morning it was talking about blockading Paris, roads, train stations, airports to keep them in.

Hasn't the rest of France been waiting for decades for an excuse to do that?

It can be very localised though. Over 200 in Isere. There have been many cases in Bourgoin in the north of Isere. 4 deaths there in the last week. I was there 3 weeks ago

@Mike S,
All ski resorts closed on Sunday 15th March as government instruction. Courchevel didn't stop open any later.

@Stewart_Woodward Agree. However, the report suggests that Courchevel knew that they had Covid19 cases from March 5th. Meanwhile, they publicly declared that no cases had been reported in the resort.

There's a post on Courchevel Seasonaires Facebook today that a Moniteur from the C1850 ESF has died of Covid 19. RIP Nicolas Leduc.

or as the local Vosges (his family were behind Ventron ski area in the Vosges) paper put it
"Nicolas died of the Corona Virus just before blowing out the candles on his 50th birthday"
I doubt he'd have been blowing anything with Covid-19 to be honest, Very bad taste.
Nicknamed "teddy bear" Nicolas enjoyed his food and is another reminder that the overweight are most at risk from Covid-19

My MD has just had a meeting with the govt, 4 May is the planned end of the confinement but it will be with restrictions. Facemasks will probably be compulsory. End of confinement just so people can return to work.

So that would be about 7 weeks, a bit more than was suggested at the start. Would be nice to be able to get out a bit more.
Local police have been checking roads heading this way I believe. Don't appear to be any more visitors here tbh.

obviously it is just the plan and depends in a drop in the number of infections, which does seem to be happening now. They are looking at the Imperial College model though of pulsed confinements.
We are being forced to take vacation during the confinement to save money - so that's going to be a loss of GDP for tourism later in the year.

Problem is that France will probably not have a big enough supply of FFP2 face-masks at that point.
The lead time on most online sales is 24 working days.
Given they are only good for a few hours each person would need minimum of 2-3 per day.
So for a month-long normalisation period France would need an extra 3.5Bn masks.
Given the fact that they have made the same price fixing mistake on masks as they did on gel, international suppliers are likely to de-favourize France.
This means that they will need to produce them domestically, while everything is shut down.
Unless they put some dogma aside in favour of pragmatism it is would be incredibly difficult to achieve.

I downloaded the attestation to go shopping, worked ok. Lots of locals are very suspicious of the barcode and won't use it. There are a few more people around, not many, some must have evaded checkpoints.

@Claude B, have seen a few posts on FB from locals saying that there are now many Belgians and Parisians here for the holiday period, these are from people that hardly ever go out for a walk etc and I was asked by my guide mate who lives above La Grave in Les Hières as he'd heard that people were skiing here!
I can see the main N91 in front of us and over the weekend that was eerily quiet (and that's the route they'd take), and I'm just back from a 5km walk taking in three villages and various car parks and I'd say only a few have made it here, in that there are a couple of chalets occupied that were not last week and the parkings are devoid of any non 05 plates.
Did see the PGHM helicopter obviously patrolling though was surprised that they did not fly further up the valley, maybe they were looking for some people that had been seen?
Maybe two people were seen ski touring and that amounts to hordes of Belgians and Parisians now in the valley, et voila Fake News
