Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Using Split skins... newbie question

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello, I am about to order some skins for my Whitedot Redeemers and Preachers and have been advised to go for Split skins as I can use them on both skis (I'll only be doing short skins)

I was just wondering when applying them should I stick them in a straight parallel line down the middle of the ski (with a gap between them, or should I "bend" them and stick them to the edge the ski, or as close as possible to the edge.

I have not used split skins but my instinct would be that the ski right by the edge is the most important to have skin on. Whether you can bend, or need to cut to the shape (as I had assumed) I leave to others.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

BenAS, I split mine, align the edges to the ski edge, leave a gap in the middle.

most important is 6-12 inches either side of the bindings - keep the skin close to the edge here. closer to the tip and the tail, doesn't matter so much
