Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Igluski - Offered my holiday for £115 less Just 72 hours after booking!

Booked on Sunday with IgluSki to Mayrhofen for the week. Paid £699 for the week HB, checked today just 72 hours later and the same holiday is £115 cheaper.

Rang them to see if the why we weren't told of cheaper prices coming and got some rubbish about it being the last room. Which if true is fair enough but every holiday for Mayrhofen has been reduced today.

Now if it had been in a couple of weeks then fair enough as the price does fluctuate but after just 72 hours it is a bit of a kick in the teeth!

Told we could cancel but would be charged 60%

I can understand why you might be a bit pi$$ed off with yourself for losing your nerve and booking, but really don't understand why Igluski are getting any stick. They advertise price, you book. Simple. They're not a charity, so why should they advance warn you against booking to save your pocket and undermine their business in the process.

russ_e, £699 is way over the top for HB in Mayrhofen. That's 4/5 * Chalet in Lech prices.

Iglu charge what they have to. It's the TOs who set the prices which go up and down according to sales. Like flights, the prices can alter between looking at the site, starting the booking process and getting to the end.

This isn't a good time to book, really. Too late for the early booking discounts, too early for the late booking discounts. And you still have no idea what the snow is going to be like. wink Anyone looking for the best prices (as long as it's not a peak week) needs to hold their nerve till a couple of days before.

Buyer beware I agree and I wouldn't be moaning if the price had gone up!

Just grates a little when the main advert is the holiday you have just booked but for a shed load less!

Very strange, all the prices on the Igluski site have just reverted back - not just the hotel we have booked but every single holiday has gone up around £100 in the last 15 minutes.

russ_e, FYI... Iglu and some other TO clearance websites frequently put their own percentage on to the TO's cost to them (obviously, that's how they make their money). However, there are some that don't add-on as much as IgluSki, have a look at Alpine Answers who specialise in Chalet holidays, depending upon when you travel £699 can get you some superb deals, a lot of them under £400.

russ_e, its not that uncommon in my experience for holiday costs to fluctuate up and down over relatively short periods. There are probably quite a few factors at play.

Sorry should have said £699 was a package deal including flights and transfers, HB 4 Star Hotel. Checked lots of sites and IgluSki were and still are the cheapest.

Just gutted I didn't know the price fluctuates throughout the day. Price is now £35 more than we paid, with other prices going down some going up.

Having booked our group trip for the last 8 years I have never seen anything this volatile. I don't understand how a price for a holiday can fluctuate 20% in the space of 15 minutes.

It is because the computer now allows companies to keep a very real handle on the number of bookings coming in, and manage their pricing accordingly. All it would take for a price to fluctuate significantly is a group of 20 people deciding to book on a particular deal, and you could find a TO suddenly decides that filling that hotel for that week isn't such a problem, or filling a particular flight they've got spaces on isn't an issue.

Their aim is to fill every single room in every single resort that they have committed to at the highest possible price. That is how they make a profit. If they have empty beds or charge rock bottom prices, they won't make a lot of money.

I don't really see the issue. It is either a good deal or it isn't. You negotiated with them on the web price they quoted didn't you? Doesn't everybody do that?

This is very common with all TO's. I spend alot of time searching for early booking deals (may/june usually) for mid January trip and the price advertised can fluctuate hourly and certainly daily.

Igluski I find are very competetive as they are selling agents for main TO's. I just said to them what price my holiday was with Crystal and they jostled with me on the phone and then allowed me a whopping big discount much cheaper than booking direct with Crystal. They will then ensure someone else pays more to balance mine out.

Chasseur, hits the nail on the head...it's about holding your nerve and booking the best deal for yourself. If it goes up after then happy days but you can't moan if goes down. Thats the luck of the draw. At the end of the day you must have thought the price was acceptable or you surely would not have booked.

Top tip always haggle price and never pay full advertised price unless its sale of the century. The worst that can happen is they say no afterall

Booked into a chalet couple of years ago, just us two on our own so sharing with other bookings. We booked the first room, really reasonable price, day after I went back on to website to check something, price had gone up substantially. It's almost like they wanted to get the bookings kick started for the chalet for the week we wanted...not complaining though!!

Very Happy

I suppose it's all part of that booking gamble - lose your nerve and book early to secure your trip but get higher prices, or wait it out for cheaper hols but at the risk of not having the selection to choose from. Either way, there's usually a compromise....

I grabbed a good deal last January; booked two days before we flew for something like £299 in a CC with flights and transfers. The people we ended up lunching with booked two months ahead and paid £550.... ouch!!

I have never haggled when booking a holiday before. Does it work directly with TOs? Or better with middle men like Iglu Ski? How do you approach it? Has anybody successfully haggled with Esprit? Thanks

I don't disagree with the general consensus that prices of holidays go up and down. I booked at £699 and was happy with the price. The reason that I booked early was that some of the hotels were disappearing from the site over the weekend. It looked like the hotels were filling up, they are all now available again (but at different prices!)

When I rang Iglu and asked them why the holiday I booked is now £115 cheaper they stated that it was because it was the last room and therefore discounted. Is this was true then fair enough chalk it down to experience. However, within 15 minutes the price was back to what I had paid, then it was £35 more. At this time all the other prices fluctuated around £150 each. Why if it was the last room and discounted did the price go back up?

It can't be good for customer relations to seemingly randomly fluctuate your prices. I am not aware of any holiday company that change their prices so frequently per day.

We shall go and have a good time, fall over on the slopes and have one to many in the Ice Bar. But I won't be booking with Iglu again.

(unless they have a really good deal available Very Happy )

Haggling is part of the game but I never bother.

I set my price for a holiday, find what I want and book it. If it goes down once I book, so be it. As long as you are happy with the price you paid and it was within your budget there shouldn't be an issue.

OK, a simple guide to hagglng the price of anything, becaus it appears to be that people don't know how to do it:

The seller wants to make a sale. You offer them the chance of making a sale if they can do X, where X is usually a discount of Y, where Y is a reasonable amount. Do your research beforehand, and make sure that there are other deals around offering a discount of Y.

I don't understand people who don't ask for a discount, but thanks, because you lot are making my holidays cheaper and keeping TOs in business. I have now successfully negotiated with IKEA (hard) and Sainsburys, Comet, every holiday I think I've ever booked, with builders, plasterers, decorators and when buying and selling every single car I've ever bought and sold. But you guys are welcome to keep paying over the odds - a fool and his money etc.

Can you imagine the fun or lack of it if you were in a chalet with a moaner! Takes all the fun out of the holiday listening to some fella or woman going on about their woes! You saw the price, checked it out, you were happy with it and booked it! Big swinging mickey if the price went down, you were happy with your price. Someone else decided to hold their nerve and got a better deal, good luck to them! On the other hand the crowd that got the better deal as the OP sees it may have got the short straw! They may have wanted to go to Lech or Val D'Isere, and now they are going to Mayerhofen and may hear shite about "Iglooski" or whoever from an adjoining table! Have fun and enjoy the holiday!

Roy Hockley, I'd like to know what dates he booked. Mayrhofen is under £300 Flying from MAN/NCL 5th Jan with Crystal. For £600 you can still get 4/5 star fully catered superior chalets in Lech/StAnton and even Val. He must be going peak-weeks. Skullie

skimastaaah, I agree £699 appears to be a high price for Mayerhofen, but he was after all happy to pay that price so he must have thought it was value for money! I was thinking of someone who wanted to go to the "better" resorts and held out for the better price, only to find their preferred choice was no longer available! They are now or could be in close confines with a whinger!

You can not book a luxury chalet in the Lech for £600 flying from the midlands or Manchester. The price on the Crystal site is currently circa £1000+

Please only post facts not fiction.

You can book allocation on arrival in Mayrhofen for £350 B&B 2* - We didn't really fancy taking the risk for a small saving after the cost of eating out every night.

The price of the holiday we booked is now £35 more then we paid, again. It's not really about holding ones nerve but about having a fair and open pricing policy. Changing the price of your holidays every 15 minutes is going to annoy some of your customers. I noticed 72 hours after booking and was annoyed can you imagine if you booked your holiday to find 15 minutes later it was £115 cheaper?

Why should buying a holiday be any different to buying other goods or services?

Like I said in my previous post we shall go and have a good time, I'm just glad some of the dreamers in this thread won't be there. Until the price drops to £250 of course Smile

Ahh right, London is closer than Newcastle for me. We like to pay a little extra to fly from East Mids or Birmingham. Having used Luton for the last couple of years the drive back has been a killer.
