Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bloody Off-Piste forum

OK might make it easier for people to find specific stuff but when something is posted of general interest specifically in the Piste section for maximum audience? Is Piste now defined as only being about groomers rather than general skiing chat?

Well no, (were we ever that Nazi about such things?) but it's about as off piste as a subject gets and the specialist sections are there to help people find the stuff they're interested in, especially when the forum gets really busy. eg. we're seeing a 30% rise in messages posted each day compared to last week.

There's really not a significant difference in profile between the 2 forums. It comes up just the same for anyone looking at 'Posts since last visit' (the most popular page for regular users). "Recent posts" from the front page will be just the same. Google search results are likely to be no different.
The only difference is when people go via specific forum menus in which case, surely, it's likely to improve it's appeal, no?

/justification over

I'm certainly not trying to diminish it's impact but if you feel really strongly about it, we can move it back for you.

admin, No, whining over but I sense just as highly profilic posters have no desire to ever depart from AZ wink, people avoid geek talk by bypassing Equipment etc that people wanting to avoid Billy Big Bollux tales of daring do might make a decision to avoid Off-Piste. If things which are of general interest are then swept up into these niche areas the stoke factor on the main Piste page drops dramatically. all IMHO of course.

Well I like the new setup (apart from the occasional person who doesn't grasp or indeed read what the forum is about before posting)

Indeed, opinions always welcome and please consider your HO noted (under the appropriate classification Wink )

I'm not oblivious to such factors, they are perfectly valid concerns however, on balance, I'm counting on the dedicated Off-piste forum bringing an overall increase in stoke to the forum which must surely be a good thing snowHead

Ironically, that tale was about as "Billy Big Bollux" as it gets, even though the salient point was that it all went Big Bollux up!

Well I thought the article that fatbob linked to was fascinating and very sobering http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=93615 . I'm pleased it was originally posted in the Piste as I wouldn't have seen it otherwise - I'm one of those weirdos that views sH by forum menus rather than Posts since last visit or similar. And I don't visit the Off-piste section, just as I don't visit the Snowboarding one. I think that article was of wider general interest. IMHO of course Very Happy

cathy, I would have typed every word in your posting myself, I also read the article with interest and view the forum in exactly the way as you do. Therefore I too would have missed it as I wouldn't visit an off piste forum any more than I do the snowboarding one or the disability snowsports section etc.

I enjoy the big bollux off piste reports, so I would visit an off-piste section. Now I know it exists.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

OK OK, U can stop now. I know fatbob is bribing/blackmailing you all into proving him right. (it's the only reasonable explanation)

In the last 24hrs we have seen a significant jump in traffic to the Off Piste, snowboarding and disability snowsports sections though.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Keep the off piste forum! That way I can read about stoke without having to wade through the interminable queries about which are the best goggles for low light – yet again! – just because people can't use the bloody search function. Grumble..

I too also access snowHeads by forum but I still find the separate off-piste section sensible (though I do look at it). On the other hand, there is no reason why off-piste reports shouldn't be posted to the Piste section if they are of more general interest, as I feel fatbob’s post was in this case. Frequently posts related to Resorts appear in the Piste that I feel should really be in the Resorts forum but it doesn't bother me (though again I read both forums).

But surely this thread should be in Development suggestions Laughing Laughing

Yes, but do you think I'm going to risk provoking insurrection by moving another of fatbob's threads? Wink
