Very clever, but God knows what they did to their bases landing and skiing on that surface.

Very cool. I don't really no much about FIS moguls - just like watching it on TV. I see from the text this has been contorversial? As in people suggesting a double flip couldn't be done cleanly/safely without bigger jumps?

For years mogul skiers were not allowed to go inverted at all, as recently as the 2002 Olympics. Just after this the rules changed to allow inverted tricks but I think the jumps still need to be approved.

sideslip1, Interesting, thanks. Is it a safety issue, or more of a traditional vs modern style issue?

FIS are/were generally reactionary old farts. Moseley, the reigning gold medallist in bumps deliberately threw an off-axis "dinner roll" trick at the SLC games knowing it would get him marked down (arguably he wasn't going to win anyway).
Doubles are intrinsically riskier so the scoring needs to up the points to reward those that do them.
