Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

That's fine BCjohnny, usually not hard to find somewhere to stay at the last moment. I shall try to be up for a couple of days more than the weekend and I'll be looking for people interested in doing some steeper off piste with me.

I'll be there for 23rd/24th March add me to the list. Quite some time to go though. Going to attempt to try and ski a couple of days over xmas in Cairngorm. Last two years I havn't been able too. Does it get really busy or not so much because people are still getting of the sofa from eating to much xmas dinner.

migletski, plenty of hotels in Aviemore so I wouldn't worry about having to book early, should be rooms available right up until the time you head up, you might also get a discounted room if you wait a bit.

moffatross, hobbit houses too Toofy Grin

Just seen this and I'm interested. Have been thinking about trip back to the homeland and 23-26 March fits with some time of work.

Used to ski Cairngorm, Glenshee and Glencoe regularly but haven't been back for some time - actually when I think about it probably 21yrs Shocked

Fingers crossed for favourable snow & weather.

OK, I'll pass it past Mrs T, either I bring myself up or, as the family have missed skiing this half term, we may come up as a family, if we could get 2 days like we had in Cairngorm last April, it will be worth it.

We live in Edinburgh and used to ski a lot in Scotland but manage about 6-7 weeks abroad now we are retired. We can get to Cairngorm in just over 2 hours so will come up for the day if conditions are good. I've not met any Snowheads that I didn't already know so would be good to put a some faces to names. Glenshee was looking great last week. Might give it a slide later in the week - we tend to avoid weekends as it is busier.

Hmmm. Still keeping an eye on this. Am tempted by the off-piste day course at Nevis range which concentrates on getting into the back corries. EquallyI want to go back to glencoe. And glenshee.

I'm in, might try to stay in Aviemore for the Saturday night too.

If anyone is wanting to try out the West Coast areas after the weekend, I've managed to bag a single room in the Caledonian Hotel in Fort William for £19 with breakfast on a couple of Sunday nights now this season - can't really argue with that as it's less than the cost of petrol saved driving home and back each day even for me!

There is also the Hobbit Houses on site at Glencoe Mountain Resort and camper van hookups, would actually be quite fun to get a group together and stay there as the Cafe is open till at least 8pm - later when the bar trade looks promising! snowHead snowHead

Anyone that is coming up to Aviemore by train or bus (I know quite a few came by the Sleeper last time in 2011) and wants a day or two on the West Coast, I could take a couple of people and their gear over there and either back to Aviemore or to Fort William or Bridge of Orchy Stations.

OK I'll be on my own, I have a lot on at the mo so it will need to be worth it with good snow on the ground and good weather in the air. If I make it I would probably be travelling from Whitby area via Moffat in a 5 seat transit van for anyone that wants picking up along the way with room for more kit than you can carry.

Not really. Many people will probably get there the evening before, some in the same accommodation, so shortly before we could try to arrange to get together in the evening. Others drove up in the evening, last time, so wouldn't arrive early enough for that.
As far as I can make out everyone seems to want to ski the Saturday at Cairngorm like last time so presumably we would meet up there at the start of the day and perhaps split after a while into groups with different speeds or intentions (me to try out the off-piste).
As I mentioned earlier, I hope to ski in the West a day or two before and would love to ski the Nevis back corries on the Sunday if anyone were interested to join me, though probably most will stay on in the East.

nbt, are they doing it that weekend?

Winterhighland, thanks for the info on the Hotel. I might do a day each end of the weekend instead of two before the start, in which case we could meet on the Monday if you were interested. My friend Andrew (Jungle on the Winterhighlands website) might well join me at some point.

Some video from Glencoe on Wednesday as an indication of what's currently on offer out West:

^Lift served off-piste spring snow on the East Ridge of Meall a' Bhuiridh.

^Patrol reckon the top pitch of the main line of the Flypaper is currently around 50º with the way the snow has built up this season, however if your after more mellow turns don't fret there is currently great riding across the mountain for all.

Only a couple of weeks away now. It's going to turn very cold through this weekend and looks set to remain cold through the following week. At present there's very good cover on the runs on CairnGorm, so plenty of terrain for all ability levels. There's good riding back to the Cas Carpark via all routes and it's possible to ski to the lower level Ciste Carpark for good skiers, so a theoretical 2000ft vertical on offer.

Met Office outlook:

Quote:
UK Outlook for Wednesday 13 Mar 2013 to Friday 22 Mar 2013:

Often large amounts of cloud through the latter part of next week, but with some brighter spells at times. Occasional showers across the UK, falling as sleet or snow towards the north and east, as well as some central areas. Brisk winds easing later on Friday. It will be cold and frosty with icy patches in places. The cold weather looks set to dominate through much of the rest of the period with some sunny spells but further snow showers, most likely across the north and east, with overnight frost and ice. More persistent wet weather may affect some southern and central areas at times, with the risk of rain preceded by snow inland. Towards the end of the period, conditions may turn a little more unsettled and less cold.
