Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Beautiful day at Mt Hutt today, perfect spring conditions. Bumped into heaps of people I know from Queenstown having a weekend away. Snow's still good, it was corning up nicely. They have extended their season, so will go for another 2 weeks before it's all over for another 9 months.

I entered the pond skim competition today Very Happy - scored a 9,9,8 and 7 off the judges, more for the big splash than anything I think.

Here's a couple of pictures of me failing. It was bloody cold in the water.

last day of the season tomorrow, half a metre of light and dry fresh falling from the sky right now.

Should be an awesome closing day Very Happy

Queenstown had a shocker, worst in 15 years or something like that. Treble cone got a lot of big storms. We had a lot of coastal or westerly systems, which benefit TC and Canterbury fields but don't really deliver much for Queenstown.

Up my way it's been fantastic. Had a great June, very dry and warm July, then it all got going. September and October have been exceptional.

Right now, at my place its hosing down and very cold. Mt hutt is about 15km away, and was on 60cm of fresh snow this afternoon, so could well be nearing a metre by the morning, with a low freezing level.

I've got to work tonight, so will be getting 4 hours sleep, then heading up the hill for closing day. They have a huge base up there, but things really quieter down with no tourists by early September, so it doesn't make financial sense to stay open.

Broken river may keep operating at weekends for a while, so I may get a couple of days in there, but fishing season starts on 3rd November and I'm keen to chase some trout in the high country Very Happy been tying lots of new flies over winter and got a flash new rod to try out.

A few from today, the storm certainly delivered a lot of snow, a bit wind affected, but bloody good for summer.

Snow chains and boards are packed away now for a few months....

Last picture of the winter from me - a dodgy iPhone shot of the Mt Hutt access road yesterday. Gives a good idea of why it scares people a bit. Definitely fatal if you went off the edge, and it's all unsealed/lumpy. I was surprised the little subie in front of me made it up there, he was running out of clearance in the ruts at times - I guess he had some powder day motivation Very Happy

hang11, cheers - ah yes the joys of a barrier-less cliff edge access road Shocked

Great shots and they definitely address the question anyone might have about how similar skiing in NZ is to skiing in Scotland?
Answer: not at all Laughing
