Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Are helmet cams a good thing?

There is adjustment on the angle just like the other GoPro mounts so you can change the up/down angle, not the side to side.
There are fittings to put it on the front of the Helmet, but it is actually quite heavy, so unless your helmet is super snug it may annoy you (It does me).
The chesty is the least obvious mount which I find good!

Chattonmill, you seem to get less knees in that video that other chest mount based things I've seen. How do you have yours setup?

meh, Errr I put the camera on the harness and put it on!
It may be the angle you set the GoPro at?
I also run it on 960p rather than 1080 as it runs much smoother.
Not sure, but I am 6ft 4 so perhaps something to do with that....(Clutching at straws now Laughing )

Cynic, Just put it on back to front......

As someone who's been helmet-camming for about 10 years, I agree that there has been a proliferation of Go-pros this year, but perhaps the reason we notice them is that they are so obviously there, stuck up on top in tellytubby position as most do. My extremely old kit is mostly hidden in my backpack with a small external analogue camera about the size a round bic lighter, attached descreetly around ear-flap height - people only ever noticed it if I pointed it out or they asked about the trailing cable at a rest-stop.

Once of the things that puts me off about the go-pro is it's exposed mounting, and the chest mount is useless as a snowboarder. A direct board mount is no good either as it picks up too much vibration. That leaves a pole mount and moving that around without twisting the upper body and messing up your own riding is a nightmare.

fatbob, With those angles, you may as well go get yourself a monoski. You must have a helluva time riding switch. Very Happy

I have no idea how anyone can bring themselves to fit those daft telly-tubby things. A contour side mounted is fine, but honestly, I suspect the go-pro designers are having a bit of a giggle that people actually buy and use them.

The odd thing is last year no one gave a poo-poo that it made you look like a telly-tubby and loved making videos and sharing them online. Fashion is weird.
