Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

No wish to be controversial, but you don't really need a hood if you wear a helmet.

I took mine off and I leave it at home.

I've never been cold without it either. Neck on jacket done up high, buff, goggles and helmet. Maybe if I had some sort of collar-less jacket I'd get a cold neck, but seems unlikely.

Has anyone seen any that have stow-away hoods (and are not exorbitant)?

Yes. This years Aldi soft shell jacket came with a hood that tucks away under the collar. Less than £40.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hood firmly attached to jacket

Pulled over helmet many times.

Out skiing in the blizzard while the rest of the hoodless peeps all hid in the bar "because it's too cold"!

Serriadh, This. If you use a shell of any kind (soft or hard) the hood will be relatively thin and lightweight and pack away in some fashion. It'll also do a reasonable job of keeping the weather out. Its only insulated jackets which have big bulky hoods after all.

Not true I've got a hard shell NF one with a fixed external hood. I used to hate skiing with it untill I started wearing a helmet and a rucksack, I love it now. Disclaimer it's 14 years old so maybe they dont make em like they used to and it's more of a mountain jacket than a ski jacket.

i sometimes find myself wearing 3 hoods - one on my fleece; one on my shell and one on my puffy insulated jacket thingy. the fleece one goes under my helmet and the other two over. keeps me warm Cool

dangly hood or detachable dangly hood. What is going on - I don't want a hood catching the wind behind me or collecting snow. And if I detach it I'm not going to take off my jacket in a snowstorm to re-attach it.

so you don't want a detachable hood but you would want to attach it in a snowstorm. Make your mind up.
