Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mine arrived today too. They fit fairly snugly around my hands but are huge on the outside. Will take a lot of balm and use before they soften up - not so sure they will be suitable for winter cycling unless I can get them soft and pliable.

Mine came today, size 8 as I wear medium / large examination gloves at work & they fit perfectly. Off to the fridge at Manchester tomorrow to test them (any excuse for a ski) snowHead

Pair of these ordered (now just need to sort out a Paypal problem). Can't wait. Would those who already have a pair advise a slightly tight 8 so it stretches or more roomy size 10?

But as an afterthought anyone know anything about Dachstein woolen mitts? I've had a pair as spares since about er, 1980. The story I heard (but never confirmed) was that they start out as a huge oversize pair of triple woolen layers and then Dachstein boil and boil them so the wool shrinks down similar to Inuit or Turkish felt. They are surprisingly water resistant. In the past I've skied and tramped in some atrociously wet conditions with these on and they've always remained toasty even when soaked. They are super clumsy to wear though.

Ok a quick reality check and don't want to disapoint any of you but if you take your yellow gardening gloves on holiday think about taking some warm gloves with you too. Guides are hard bastards, some of them probably could ski around the place without gloves on at all but the yellow leather gardening gloves are not that warm. They are practical if you need to whip your hands out to set up a belay or help a client put his skis on or whatever. For skiing around the resort in mid-wiinter you will be better off with proper ski gloves, even Lidl ones.

For doing the garden they are great though, especially if you have a lot of thorny trees Happy

Oh and they won't make you ski better or avoid avalanches NehNeh

I have got these in mind for end of season skiing. Can't imagine they will be warmer than my waterproof, windproof, everythingproof mitts with liners. But they do seem very convenient for those times that you need gloves, but not minus 25 try and stay alive conditions.

Maybe the mitts from the US would do the job for colder conditions. I suspect those are designed for drivers and workers that need them for really cold conditions.

When I worked in an outdoor gear/ski shop in the mid 80s we sold Dachsteins. In our product training we were told the same thing. apparently they start about 2 feet long and are then shrunk to normal size. Very impressive bit of kit. I've used them when they were frozen solid on the outside, but still toasty warm on the inside.

I've got 2 pairs of the orangey yellowy gloves. Great at Hemel fridge, but I've not used them on the mountain yet.

Is there ANY chance they will fit my small, girl hands? I usually wear an XS/S in ladies gloves (current pair are Phoenix, I believe).

I don't mind them being a little big - in fact it helps as I whip my gloves on and off a lot to attend to small children's bindings/gloves/zips/other traumas, but if they're man-sized gloves, they're probably a no go.

swisssnowbunny, if your talking about my gloves, then yes we have some small ones, some of the size 8's are on the small size, its just a matter of me wading through loads of gloves to find one pair that is more like a 6 to 7 than a 8 Toofy Grin
