Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bindings Marker Duke/Tour F12

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all,

I was wondering if I might be able to pick your brains. We are starting to do touring so I am going to need to change to touring bindings and was looking to grab some advice. I am looking at the Marker Duke and Tour F12 bindings, which will be attached to Whitedot Preachers.

Being a prop, I am not the lightest fella in the world (around 100-107kgs) and tend to ski with more power than technique. This has me leading towards the Barrons, as I am little worried that I will be close to the weight limit on Tour F, which I think is around 113kgs (considering that my 100-107kgs is without ski boots, gear and a hearty lunch, I reckon I could make that 113kg easy enough.) We are not going to be done massive tours, so am slightly less worried about the extra weight (800g) of the Duke and, I reckon, I could loose more than the 800g to off set them!

Any thoughts would be greatly appricated

Cheers

DF

Dublinfella, see where your coming from on your build etc;. The Tours are pretty good but I think they still have another issue which you have to take into account, you need to take your boot out of the binding to switch between ski and tour modes.

This seasons Marker Barons are now a 13 din with a rating of up to 120kg maybe an option if your loosing weight

The Dukes will handle most things you can throw at them including a prop and probably the rest of the pack Shocked

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for the quick replies. livetoski, it is my understanding that you need to take your boot out of both bindings to switch modes or am I wrong? SMALLZOOKEEPER, I was worried about the brakes, but was told they could be bent around? Does that make sense?

Dukes you need to take both feet out to switch modes.

I had my brakes bent, seem ok (touch wood....)

I was really hoping to get Tour F12s but was swayed against them by a number of people who reported (on TGR) either failures of the F12 (mainly due to knee falls, I understand), or, more worryingly, a tendency to develop significant slop after relatively limited use. So I bought Barons, and I'm only c. 85kilos. (Disclaimer: I have no idea if the reports on the F12s are exaggerated, normal failure rates for the volumes sold, etc).

SMALLZOOKEEPER knows a lot more about equipment than I do, but at that weight, and assuming no long tours, I would go for Dukes.

you definitely need to take the boot out of the binding to switch modes on the Barons and Dukes. Not ideal but for me the hassle is worth for the downhill mode.
