Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alps Glacier Watch for Summer 2011

Selective reading Mr Whitegold, what it really said was:

Quote:
I’m projecting a decrease of the alpine glacier surface by 90 per cent in the next 90 years, but it’s also possible that everything will have gone completely.”

Now who is being a tinsey weeny bit alarmist - the glaciers have melted and are still melting. The rate of melt has increased BUT 90% did not melt last year.
Melt = Retreat only if summer ablation exceeds winter accumulation. Given the paucity of the snowfall last winter - odds on for another big loss this year.

Read the whole article as it is an interesting study!

^ Nice try, Mrs Sue.

But you need to try harder wink

Of 91 Swiss glaciers studied last year, 82 had retreated.

One shrank nearly 200 meters.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Whitegold, hardly rocket science WOW 82 have retreated!

I think in the past 100 years every single temperate glacier in the world on has retreated - it's part of the cycle. Even the artic continental ones are either stagnating or retreating!

Get a grip man, you've still got a couple of seasons or so before you really need to panic!

I was skiing at Hintertux yesterday... Conditions were quite wintery! It was more like skiing in the storms that come in October than like skiing in July!
It was snowing at the Tuxer Fernerhaus (2660m) and snowing but not sticking at Sommerberg (2100m).
Poor visibility and boot deep new snow (too heavy to call powder) made skiing quite interesting Very Happy
