Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lucylou, it's below the hotel galise. Currently in the dou doune (sp?) under the solaise express watching a band. If you see a guy with jeans, black zip up top, pint in one hand and crutch in the other, say hi.

Dr John, I'm saddened to read about your injury, hope your recovery goes well and you get back on the slopes soon after.

Dr John, On the bright side, there are far worse places to be laid up with an injury!

Hope you have some surgeon friends (are you a medical doctor) or good health care insurance. The speed of the surgery and the quality of the physio make a massive difference for ligament damage repairs.

Get well soon.

Dr John, Best of luck. My wife did hers in Hintertux last Easter and is still recovering. She isn't going to risk it this season but shoud be ok for next. Fortunately, she had private medical insurance and was operated on soon after. She had lots of physio and was given lots of exercises to do at home. Its a long process but if you have the operation quickly and follow instructions it will foreshorten the incapacity.

Dr John, hard luck Mate but it sounds like you've got exactly the right atittude to come back better and stronger and a night on the pop sounds like just the ticket! I was finally signed off by my physio on Thursday after 23 months of ACL rehab. I've been with him so long i think I've got Stockholm syndrome and am going to start stalking him! Great news you have got a top London surgeon (Jonathan Bell at Wimbledon is v good and is a very keen skier). With a but if hard graft you can look forward to hitting the slopes next season, the only real negative is that the scars are a bit small to impress the chicks!

What. A. Palava. Apparently BMI don't accept passengers who can't bend both legs, so I was booked onto an Easyjet flight with a taxi booked at the other end. The insurance company then utterly flabbergasted me by saying I had to find my own way to the aiport and then claim back any expenses because, according to them, "we don't have an arrangement with any private transport companies in France". I pointed out they they advertise themselves as a skiing specialist insurance company, and seeing as I was in not exactly an obscure resort, I didn't think it unreasonable for them to be able to make some sort of arrangement. After many phone calls, many stern words, and some sterling work from the hotel manager, a taxi was duly arranged. I was then wheeled by my mate, Little Britton style, through the airport. Thanks to PamW for the words "don't be fobbed off". I wasn't, despite their best efforts.

To add insult to (literal) injury, EJ neglected to load my skis on the plane (along with about 20 others). I expect to see them some time next week.

As an amusing aside, my wonderful taxi driver wheeled my straight to the front of the queue to get me and my mate booked in. It would appear that some of the people he barged in front of were other Snowheads returning from, I presume, Alpe d'huez. I think this because I saw the same people at the carrousel, and one of them was wearing a SH shirt. If this is the case I apologise for any inconvenience caused, but thanks for the kind sympathy shown.

Trying to book an appointment with a knee specialist doc early next week. I'll let you know how I get on.

jonathancarty, I have to say that they did eventually do the right thing (after many phone calls and a threat to take the case to Watchdog), and this is very much a reflection of my own very poor experience, but I for one will never use the company again (edited until claim is complete).

That's an utter disgrace. Name and shame. When daughter in law did hers, and superb arrangements were made, it was Snowcard. The only reason we don't still use them is they don't do long trips. The emergency people did everything. They just told us what time the ambulance would arrive at the chalet, then every single thing was taken care of till they were dropped by ambulance outside their own house in Bristol.

I see that Dr John has edited out the insurance company's name. I saw what he put and wouldn't dream of exposing it nwo he has edited, however folk might be reassured to know it wasn't Direct, Snowcard, Dogtag or a policy associated with a bank account (I think)

Best of luck with the knee you have my sympathy as someone who's popped their ACL, most people, but not all are far better of with reconstruction surgery.

Am sure you will be fine, and this time next year it will be nothing but a memory. As previous posters have stated post op rehab is key, the more strength in the legs the better, also improved core strength and flexibility in MHO help enormously.

Top knee doc has been consulted and confirmed it's an ACL rupture, with a little bit of MCL damage thrown in for good measure. Surgery recommended. MRI scan today, then physio twice a week before another consultation in 3 weeks time to see what's what.

*sigh*

Dr John, bad luck. Look on the bright side, your medial meniscus is intact, O'Donaghues triad avoided. Work hard at the pre-hab and what happens next after will be easier

Thanks for the kind words.

The sharks are already circling. One mate wants my new boots, another wants to borrow my skis. Off to initial physio this avvo, hopefully will be a sprightly filly in a comedy Benny Hill style nurses outfit. Armchair lechery is my only current vice.

Freddie Paellahead, Yep, doc thought the knee looked good enough, no point hanging around. Currently sporting a Breg T-scope knee brace, looks like something from robocop.
