Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Verbier / 4 Valleys

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Monday 10th January

Weather :-
Light snowfall overnight, giving approx 8cm new snow with no significant wind
Very warm
-2.C @ 08h00 @ 1750m
+8.C @ 13h30 @ 1750m
Broken cloud in the valley and at altitude giving mixed visibility through the day

On Piste :-
Generaly piste conditions are excellant, helped by the over-night dusting and the deserted slopes, although there are some glazed patches lower down.

Off Piste :-
Avalanche Hazard 2
Considering there has been no significant snowfall for quite a while, conditions are quite good.
Although tracked out, at altitude, the snow is still soft
There is a hard layer just below the surface, giving pleasant skiing.
It does get a bit soft & heavy lower down.

Still investigating ...
The snow pack is very shallow, and there is considerable evidence of depth hoar, especially on N slopes.
The pack is heavily layered, with both strong hard layers and very weak layers.
Still investigating, and this may have been localised, but take care.

Alan McGregor, thanks Alan, looking forward to the weekend now. Just hope the temps fall a bit

Tuesday 11th January 2011

Weather :-

Colder
-8.C @ 08h00 @ 1750m
0.C @ 14h00 @ 1750m
Clear sky morning, then high level cloud, descending with approaching weather system, started to snow mid-afternoon

On Piste :-
Still generaly excellant, although things are starting to get a little harder & more glazed.

Off Piste :-
Avalanche Hazard 2
Still some fun to be had. Managed to get some fresh tracks of Mont Gele, admittedly not on the standard route ! Col des Gentianes is in condition, and not too bumped up, especialy skiers right. Even under Chassoure is nice, with few bumps skiers right (although the traverse line is pretty scary).

Snow pack seems better consolidated here, perhaps due to aspect, than on Greppon Blanc yesterday. Of course, the weaknesses could just be buried deeper ....
