Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Christmas somewhere between Dijon and Tignes

Off to Tignes over New Year 2010/11. Will be driving so thought it might be nice to stop and spend Christmas in a hotel of suitable lovliness en route. Any suggestions? The French are more NY people than Christmas people but I don't really want to end up with some sort of gala evening with me, t'other half and 18 French OAPs. Surprisingly, the interformation super highway whotsit isn't proving to be particularly helpful.

Somewhere in the Jura? Or Annecy?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

laundryman, I looked at Annecy and could only find either cheap 'n' cheerful or uber expensive (and chintzy). Jura sounds an excellent option, I'll try to pick a town as a basis for a search.

zammo, I assume you mean Christmas Eve which is when the French will celebrate. http://www.la-chaumiere.info/en/cuisine.htmlwas recommended recently by a fellow SnowHead although I haven't stayed there yet.

Hells Bells, yes, that is exactly what I mean. Need to be in Tignes for 27th so reckoned on getting somewhere for 24th + dinner, then getting in some winter walking and some downtime 25 / 26 before heading up the Isere valley. I'll take a look at La Chaumiere.

In your shoes I'd be thinking about the area round Epernay - but I appreciate that is North of where you want to be.
