Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

planeurge, great story - thanks for sharing. On the vertebra point, i have the same injury with wedge compressions of T8 and T9 (from a rock climbing accident last year). I am now 6 months post injury but i did manage to go snowboarding about 12 weeks post injury, and again at 4 months, and most recently at 5 months post injury. I was a bit worried i might have to give it up, but i've managed not too badly. It was a bit stiff on the first trip, but quite manageable in the more recent trips. I'd say i'm probably about 70% recovered, and i'd hope for a bit more before the full year is out.

I'm sure your orthopod has given you sound advice. For me the physio made such a difference. I go every week, and i'll probably keep this up in the medium to long term.

Good luck with your recovery.

pam w, indeed. I was actually requested to remove my post altogether but tbh, I'm uncomfortable with the censorship.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes - and as the whole thing is in the public domain, it's fairly pointless.

A good article in Le Dauphine Libéré today:

http://www.ledauphine.com/avalanches-pour-le-theoricien-du-hors-piste-il-n-y-a-pas-que-la-fatalite-dans-ces-morts-apres-la-serie-noire-le-coup-de-gueule-d-anselme-baud-@/index.jspz?article=287000

Largely written by Anselme Baud - for those who are too young - an extreme skier - video here from his first descent of the Peuterey Arete on Mont Blanc in 1977. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4940294562795340866#

He puts it very well in his article that people seem to be forgetting or ignoring the basics of avalanche avoidance.

marksavoie, interesting article. I think he's on a bit of a hiding to nothing if he thinks people are going to go back to waiting 2-3 days after snowfall to ski a lot of things though.

You might want to reasses your perception of snowHeads range of resorts....I'm rather fond of your place planeurge, and given its well known attraction that norris points out I really do think that for Dypcdiver's reasoning alone you should ski equiped with bleeper, probe and shovel.

That being said I would be thinking "phew!" and counting my blessings.
