Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saturday Programme Changes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
All very up in the air and announcements due in teh next couple of hours....... Forecast as everyone knows is pretty grim, and the snowpack on both the men's and women's course is very changeable between the top and bottom. That will be one of the key deciding factor about the programme with safety uppermost in everyones minds. More news after Team Captains meetings.

Just heard Brian Stemmle (ex CAN national team) saying " the courses are too dangerous in some instances but there is always going to be a huge element of risk involved just due to the very nature of the sport". Tough out there and tomorrow will be tougher than most anywhere else so far this year because of the lack of time on the course for everyone and the difficult snow and weather conditions......

Well, Men's DH is the only Alpine event scheduled for tomorrow. As per original plan - Start at 11:45.
No real insider news regarding the women's programme organisers are taking things one day at a time and hoping the predicted improvement in tthe weather will arrive at the start of the week. Whistler is jumping now though with a mix of Friday night good feeling and the opening ceremony anthem blasting out from most of the bars in town, still raining though!

Back to the business in hand however.

Weather worries
Freezing level at 1500m rain on the lower part tomorrow, similar Sunday but Monday onward should be a lot better from
the rest of the week.

Work planned throught he night and early shout regardingt the programme, poss pre-dawn....

Quote from jury: The 'Olympic Scenario' dictates that there can't be any early predictions about (re-)schedules just yet.....

Sounds like there will be some serious re-jigging of the programme since therre's a strong chance of losing tomorrows

Men's Downhill.

UK interest and expectsations lie with Ed Drake at number 43.

The favourites, or top ranked 7 skiers go as per the World Cup start order, they're drawn 16 - 22 and they go as follows:

17 Cuche
21 Janka
18 Walchofer
20 Osborne-Paradis
22 Defago
16 Heel
19 Svindal

What strikes me is the lone Austrian in that list, funny how things change.

Good point Peter, my short list there is of the top SEEDED racers, Bode could cetrtainly be someone to watch here since the lack of training time now might favour a racer who is prepared to take extra risk...

Tech stuff
Start Altitude is 1678m (c.5,500')
Finish is at 825m (c.2,700')

Whilst the resort is pretty low compared to say anywhere in The Rockies of
Alps, the biggest factor affecting the weather here and in particular the temperature is Whistler's proximity to the Pacific ocean. The good things though is that there's space in the overall Olympic programme to reschedule and there is tonnes of snow on the track. Smile

Downhill BBC2 programme starts 18.00, race at 18.30

So the vertical on the track is 853m - that means they can't cut it significantly (the rules say it must be between 800 - 1,100m)
