altis,
I had a flying lesson at Courcheval Altiport in April. It was only £10.00/ hr more than the UK. It was the best value thing I did that week.

Taxi to and from.
And I once found myself on the wrong side of the valley after the lifts closed and had to take taxi back - don't ask how much it cost... it still hurts...

sounds exceptionally unlikely, unless it was a very fancy sort of bread, full of beaufort and walnuts or similar. You don't want to believe everything you hear....

Lou, I am only willing to reveal that I had to stop at the cash machine to withdraw the necessary amount...
As for food/drink, the item which most of you have mentioned, I have never seen anything like 3V. A glass of "house wine" (red) 25 Euros, G&T - 15, IIRC...

38 Euro for a New Yorker Hamburger at the Panoramique restaraunt at the top of the Saulire Courchevel ! - yes chips were extra!
and you got the best in surly french service- humourless, graceless - The 3Vs wwere a joke this year - i got cinditioned to it - Beer at 8/9 Euros a pint, lunch regularly over 40 euros a head - Lift pass 230 Euros - Just a bloody rip off - its almost a shame the snow was so good as had it not been i think half the 3Vs bars and restaraunts would have closed and it would have served them right. I'm voting with my feet Austria next year

Lou, as I noted, very large, and very specialised, bread might cost a lot - there are some French loaves which if sold whole would feed a couple of football teams. and some with special ingredients like walnuts, cheese, etc. But a bog standard basic loaf (comparable in size, if not in quality, to yer Tesco special) would definitely not cost anything like that much, even in Val D'Isere.
However, anyone who goes to Meribel has only themselves to blame. For anything.

Agenterre has wilfully ignored the remit of this thread that it is for whinging.
By all means whinge about UK resorts too - Chill Factore 28 squid for 4 runs in an hour and a half.

At this point I must share that the cheapest pair of gents boxers I could find in Tignes last December was just under 30 euros. Due to some fairly careless packing I found myself short in the underwear department and had to go shopping for more. This can be corroborated by holidayloverxx and vetski who kindly helped me choose the offending articles.

Bit late on this thread but buy your lift pass in Zermatt and you can opt to pay in Sterling or ChF. The sterling rate is at least 5% of the credit card exchange rate (Helpful guy in the lift office alerted me to this one)

Mountain Haddock, Giving the alternative of £ or ChF seems to be quite common in Zermatt for all types of businesses. I took the view that as I have a Nationwide credit card they were unlikely to give me a better exch rate and took ChF every time.

What do all these posts have in common? Its all about France. Dont go there its dirty, a rip off and full of French pigs. Go to Austria where they treat you with a bit of respect and take your money with a smile, its cheaper too.

Colin B, if those girls had had any fellow feeling they'd have lent you some of theirs; girls always travel with at least 2 pairs for each day of the holiday.
THE THING, your geography of the Alps is clearly a bit suspect.

THE THING, Thank you for that useful post. Geography obviously isn't a strong point of yours. FYI Andorra, Zermatt and Verbier, which are all examples from this post are not actually in France.

Alastair Pink,
Did a 1 hr lesson,
1/2 hr general handling, flying through the Cols, followed by 3 landings/ takeoffs. I managed to land with a little help from the instructor. He reckoned about 3 hrs before a solo landing at Courcheval. Best experience of my life, and like I said at a very reasonable price relative to the UK. I am now proud to be a member of The Three Valleys Aero Club

I remember, on my very first skiing holiday, concentrating for all my worth on the run that runs under the end of the runway. Suddenly, there was a tremendous noise and, when I looked up, there was a Dash-7 just feet above my head - very frightening!
