Just wondering what people carry with them in their back pack while skiing?
like survival bag, whistle, etc etc......
I am thinking about maybe a whistle for this years trip and maybe a little strobe light, maybe.

Matt_G, yeah, there's nothing worse than running into a disco on the slopes and finding that their lighting is just not up to spec.
I carry a hat (to replace the helmet during cold or sunny breaks), SPF and lip stuff, tissues (for those long lonely chair lifts) and money/CCs, all in pockets.

Matt_G, I normally wear a backpack even though I generally stick to on-piste.
It will contain a camelbak (1.5L), a fleece or jumper, spare pair of gloves, spare pair of goggles, usually the cat-tracks that I will have had on my boots until I reached the lift, lunch if I'm taking a packed lunch, wallet, lip salve, multi-tool (similar to leatherman but cheaper).

I stay on piste (Mr. L knows all about that ) I don't like skiing with a rucksack so usually look like the Michelin man!!
I carry debit and insurance card, mobile phone, sun cream, i-pod, hat, goggles (wear sun-glasses), piste map, navette timetable. If I take a rucksack I usually throw in a bit of food and a bottle of water.

No back pack usually, just pockets. Wallet, tissues, phone, camera, lift pass, piste map, sun cream...
|
|
|

Just pockets.
If I'm on a stuff them full day (which means its sunny and I've decided the camera is worth taking) then its
plastic cards, insurance stuff, EHIC card, mobile phone, spare glasses or contact lenses depends on which combo is working best in the weather, choccy bar, tissues, buff (if I'm not already wearing it), camera and I can normally be relied upon for Leatherman, space blanket, sun cream, lip salve, whistle, also possibly small LED light, triangle bandage, elastoplast etc. but what I get away with depends on how much I look like the Michelin man and how much mickey is taken before I set off. It might be fair to say I take too much, but I used to be a very good girl guide.
The above has needed to be pared down since the advent of my new jacket which has fewer pockets and is designed for a more streamlined look so it looks a bit odd if I cram it too full

Matt_G, do you ski off piste (I mean, really off piste)? Otherwise...
On definite on/near piste says I only take a pack if I have my big camera. The only thing I find invaluable that would be at all unusual is one of the little interdental brushes to pick my teeth with after an admirable luncheon. I find virgins a little stringy and their flesh gets stuck a bit.
On off piste days, apart from S-T-P, I have security blanket, snack bars, strong spirits, chewing gum, a days supply of drugs (most of mine are on prescription, you choose your own), multi tool, inner gloves, goggles, glasses, hat head band, spare fleece.
On off piste days when I know I will be fighting ninjas, I usually add a phase pistol or two. Those little black clad gits are a 'mare hand-to-hand so evaporating them at a sensible distance is a Good Plan.

under a new name, I like your preparedness. I'd like to carry one of those needler guns you get on Halo.
Standard gubbins which gets jammed into the pockets of my jacket:-
Cash
Phone
Camera
Car keys
Water
Lip salve
Suncream
Couple of snack bars
Cable & padlock
Edge sharpening tool
Foil survival blanket
If touring then I wear a backpack with room for more gubbins, e.g. a lot more food, drink and skins.

My Fila (chavtastic) ski jacket from TKMaxx has muchos pockets so:
Piste Map, I appear to be the only member of my family who can make any sense of them - 'Can we ski up the blue run under the gondola Dad ?'
Chapstick, usually from our summer holidays but occasionally a proper well good winter sports one.
Camera
Abbey Zero Credit Card in wallet with a bit of cash for beers/hot choccies
Lift pass - in its own pocket so I never run the risk of opening the pocket for something else and losing my 200Euro ticket to the slopes !
Apartment Key - never lost it but only a matter of time !
Used to carry a hat but since getting my Giro helmet don't need that.
Zardoz NotWax for a quick run over at the end of the day so the skis arew primed for the next morning.
+lots of things which the kids should carry for themselves but because they are kids my wife scowls if I don't carry them on their behalf !

johnboy, If you get as thirsty as I do, then you have to have some water with you, or you end up spending a fortune no bottled water on the mountain.
I usually drain the 1.5L camelbak in a day, and have even been known to refill it from taps in the loos on occasion.

lip balm, kitkat, camera, mobile, cash, tissues, anti bac hand gel (have you SEEN some of those loos?) suncream, baguette/lunch, babybels
