Hey guy's, just wanted to know what you lot carry in your back packs. I'll be taking my very slimline hydrapack with me to the alps in January. It's very light weight, has a super strong bladder and low profile. So far on my list is as follows:
-hydrapack with 2l water reservoir with insulation tube
-insurance documents/copy of passport
-small amount of cash
-phone
-multi tool
-couple of chocolate bars/energy bars
-sunglasses (i'll be wearing a helmet with goggles)
-chap-stick
I think thats everything i need as i'll be either buying lunch or going back to the chalet.

i always have an extra layer, or space to put a layer in that i have taken off, also try to disperse the small things around your person to help with weight distribution and space

Scott mid-layer, sunglasses in a goggle box, beanie, sun cream . The kids carry snow shovels in their's for the odd bit of kicker building.

hugh_b, Why do you take a copy of your passport with you? I'm not sure I understand that one..
Also If I know I'm only going out for a 1/2 day then I tend not to take the backpack at all, and just shove a bottle of water in my pants pocket..obviously that will change when we get some fresh around and I need to bring the probe, shovel etc..

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

A copy of your passport is insufficient. You need to carry the originial.

Don't forget a dustbin bag or thick carrier bag so you can sit on the snow and eat your sandwiches on a sunny day without getting a wet bum!!
