The last eight days there was hardly sunshine. Today Friday, the last day of the week, finally it was a magnificent day. The whole day a blue sky and less wind than the days before. At the end of the afternoon from the north some fog and low clouds spreaded over the mountaintops. The air was filled with floating icecrystals and this gave glitters everywhere. At the end of the day even a vertical line appeared just opposite from the sun. Last night the clouds disappeared and this was the main reason for the low temperatures. On 2000 meter it was at the end of the night -15 degrees and during the day it rose to -10 degrees. This was a excellent test for your clothes how good they are to protected you from low temperatures. As you know there is no bad (cold) weather, only there are bad clothes. Due to the sunshine it was very crowded on the pistes and at the lifts. Probably next week it will be even worse when the schoolholidays in The Netherlands and Belgium wil start.

The sun had disappeared this day. A lot of clouds and low hanging fog. Sometimes, but very short, a sunny spell. In the afternoon some small snowshowers. The snow is excellent, but the sighting is terrible. It is colder than yesterday. On the display near the TC Bruyère a funny advice (in "English") for the skiers.

Sunday, 15-2-2009
Due to sun it feeled today less cold than yesterday. At night the temperature dropped at 3000 meter to -20 degrees. During the day it became between -7 and -10 degrees. The sun was present during the whole day, but in the afternoon a litte less brillant due to thin, high clouds. The number of skiers on the pistes and the waitingtimes at the lifts are acceptable.
Yesterday on the highway N90 in direction Moutiers there were less cars than expected. At the tollgates near Albertville members of the union CGT were present to ask for attention for the seasonworkers. They only gave you leaflets and extra delays were not caused by the actions. Yesterday arrived 70 trains in the railwaystation of Moutiers, which carried in total 20.000 visitors.

The temperature was again a little bit higher today and at midday it was near freezingpoint at 2000 meters. The bad weather with a lot of snow at north side of the Alps gave us here a very grey day. Low hanging clouds, fog and the whole snow day very light snowfall.
Bad visibility on the slopes! The new snowlayer is not more than 2 cm.

A beautifull day with a lot of sun and some clouds. At higher altitudes the cold is back again. The pistes are in a good shape. The little snow of yesterday improved the the pistes. In the sun it is good to relax and so the terasses are all occupied. The main lifts have a lot to do and waitingtimes from 5 to 10 minutes are not an exception.

Yesterdays forecast for today was correct. Again a very nice day with higher temperatures and a blue sky with some thin high clouds. Perfect conditions for the closure of one of the busiest weeks of the season. Last week was cold, but 6 out of 7 days the sun was shining.

A quiet Saterday with magnificient sunny weather. In the afternoon in the shade it became quickly colder and the temperature dropped to -5 degrees.

Last night it was less cold than the nights before. At the beginning of the day it started snowing. The light snowfall lasted untill 16.00.
Suddenly the sky opened and it was possible to ski during one hour in the sun and in a thin layer of fresh snow. Despite the bad weather, snowfall, fog and less visibility, it was crowded on the slopes.

Again a very nice springday. The quality of the snow on the south slopes is going down very fast. At 3000 meters it was above the
freezing point. On several west oriented steep slopes there were small avalanches visible. The forecasting for tomorrow is good. For next week some bad weather with new snow???

The nice weather of the last days has been replaced by clouds. The whole day was grey. Slopes above 2400 meter are hard and below there was fondant and slushy snow. Off-pistes is hardly possible because all the wet snow was frozen during last night. The conditions can only improve with a layer of fresh snow. So fingers crossed!

In the morning there were some clouds with a pale sun. During the afternoon more clouds came down and everywhere there was fog and bad visibility. The temperature at 2000 meter was +3 degrees. So there was no improvement of the pist condities today.

This was the day of the beautifull clouds. The valleys were filled up with clouds and roughly between 2200-2500 meter there was a layer of clouds. The weather was alternating between clouds and sunshine. On the high altitudes is was mostly sunny with moderate winds. The layer of 3 cm fresh snow of yesterday afternoon had made the condition of the higher pistes a litte bit better.
On 3000 meter it was -3 degrees in the afternoon. Below 2000 meter there is a lot of "soup" already. For the coming days the temperature will drop.

The whole there was heay overcast. Until this afternoon 14.00 most lifts were closed due to the strong winds. The liaisons from Val Thorens and Les Menuires to the other valleys were closed. It was only possible to go to Méribel from St Martin des Belleville. The temperature varied around 0 degrees. According to the weatherforecast the coming night we will snowfall. The limit between rain/snow will come down from 1700 to 500 meter.

According with the forecast it started snowing last night. The whole day uptill this evening the snowfall continued. A new layer of 25-30 cm dry powdersnow is now available. The temperature is a few degrees below zero. The visibility on the pistes was far from ideal. The hard ice patches under the fresh snow made skiing not as simple as usual.

Friday, 6-3-2009
At the beginning of the evening the snowfall has been stopped. More than 40 hours lasted this snowfall. The depth of the fresh powder is more than 50 centimeters. This afternoon it was possible to go little off-site and there the snow came to your upperlegs.
The conditions for skiing today were not so good. Most lifts and high slopes were closed because of the high avalanche danger.
The liaisons with the other valleys were also closed. Due to fog and snowfall the visibility was bad. On the few open pistes there were to many slow skiing people.

A lot of clouds and fog today. Sometimes sunny, mainly above 2000 meters. Temperature a few degrees below zero and moderate winds at 3000 meters. There is plenty of snow again. A very nice layer of powdersnow , off-piste more than 50 cm.

After a number of days with bad weather today it was beautifull. Sun in combination with a lot of snow, excellent pistes and a limited number of skiers made this day to one of the bests of the current season.

Early in the morning there was a clear sky. During the morning the clouds appeared again and at noon it started snowing. The rest of the afternoon the snowfall continued. The temperature at the top was -7 degrees. At the top it was not very pleasant with the high winds and the snowfall. A few hunderd meters lower there was less wind. The clouds, the fog and the low visibility made the conditions for skiing far from ideal. It was compensated by the quality of a layer of fresh snow, that made the pistes better by the hour. It was a quiet day. During the descend of the Péclet at lunchtime there was nobody in front or behind me.

I don't know where we were in meribel area (with a mate who knows it well, I was just following) but we were knee to waist deep all day.

The last 24 hours there is 20-25 cm snow fallen. In the morning it was very cloudy with some light snow. During the day the weather improved step by step. In the second part of the afternoon the sun was shining nearly everywhere. On the pistes are big "moguls" and sometimes ice. The lower pistes were soft due to the quick rise of the temperature. Off-pistes the conditions were excellent.
