Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm not a Welsh speaker but I have bits embedded in my psyche and I've always understood that saesneg is the Welsh for "English". Is that right? The links seem fairly obvious.

Sassenach was originally a Gaelicised version of saxon. Welsh is derived from an old English word for a foreigner. Similarly, the Swiss German word for the Romands is Welsh.

Cue explosion and lengthy, yet interesting, history lesson concerning the Scots being downtrodden by centuries of Sassenach oppression. I'm not surprised that Mel Gibson wouldn't stand for it....

Surely Sassenach was originally a name given by the Highlanders to the Lowland Scots and not the English?

That's because lowland scots are pretty much English (Saxons).

Why don't you open up a nationwide bank account and then use the card to withdraw money at cash points - no charges to pay unless the foreign bank charge. here in Austria they don't.- and you get the actually market exchange rate. Today for example is 1.24 and the market rate is 1.245. Thats how I change pounds to Euro. Also their credit cards is the only one that doesn't charge for using it aboard ( it does for getting cash out a cash point) - no loading and the market as well.
