There is now a distinct possibility that next year will see us staying at home. We are in a business closely related to the property market and a tough couple of years is on the cards.

First week of Jan - Reberty/3V with my and other families
Late Jan - works outing - long weekend some where in Switzerland
Feb Half Term or as early as poss at Easter - me and daughter only , no idea where yet...............
Ghost Dog - I would be a bit wary about Le Totem in Flaine , unless Crystal really have got their act together. We went week before Christmas 2 years ago - brilliant location , great building , limited runs and food/service ( compared to the small specialist chalet operators ).

alltnaha, we stayed at le Totem, probably about 4/5 years ago and as you say, brilliant location. Limited runs? Well, that depends on the snow, and we had tons. It was March, though. Flaine is usually pretty reliable snow-wise. The food and the service were fine. I guess that's in the lap of the Gods too, as things (and staff) change year by year in TO land .

Elizabeth B,
Come on. Don't pull our legs.
I believe you have a Swiss connection and know about Switzerland more than anybody here.
Murren is Schilthon. It is shown in the Jungfrau ski map which includes First (Oberjoch) and Kleine Dcheidegg-Mannlichen (more often referred to as Wengen or Grindelwald.)
Murren or Schilthon is famous of its mountain top restaurant (revolving?) used in one of the James Bond films, Casino Royal (1st one).
The black run off the restaurant down has substance. It isn't steep but gives the skiers a feeling that they are skiing on a side of the pyramid. Look kind of scary from the cable car up but when skiing it the boundary has bumps to prevent the skiers from shooting off the edge.
Last edited by So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much on Tue 24-06-08 14:15; edited 1 time in total

High above the village of Murren (1650m) is the Schilthorn Piz Gloria (2970m) this is where the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service was filmed ....me thinks

Chris Brookes,
Think you are right. I remember the Bond was Gerge Lazenby and the baddy was Telly Savalas. Many scenes were shot at Piz Gloria according to the Internet information.

Frosty the Snowman, hope (all of?) you can make it to the EoSB at least. MrsTallTone and I will be doing our damnedest to be there. Not sure if anything else is on the cards in these uncertain times - despite we now being on the downhill side of the solstice to winter, have tried not to think about 2008/09.

Chris Brookes, saikee, if you get up there, you can see the relevant scenes in the repeating-loop theatre The restaurant is a truly stunning engineering achievement. Try and make it on a good-weather day - likely only one day in your week; watch the forecast carefully.

Altnaha, thanks. I've booked a Chalet in La Plagne 1800 with Crystal. Thought this was more snow sure and was cheaper. Nervous about Chalet host's cooking in 2nd week of season but ho hum, we'll see.

If you want a bit of spice in your skiing then try Schilthorn Piz Gloria and its restaurant.
The restaurant serves "James Bond spaghetti". It is a normal spaghetti to me but possibly spiced up with curry power!
Apart from the cable car the only way down is the pyramid-side black run. With some "James Bond spaghetti" warming up your stomach you can pick up enough courage to charge down the black run. Just don't shoot off the edge of the pyramid and you will be alright.

Perhaps if there are only a few resorts which haven't banned smoking, all the smokers will collect there, like lemmings and finally they will all be on one mountain top and get sucked up by the giant up-draught caused by their combined conflagrations. I'd pay to see it!
