Items in this forum disappear after 90 days if no-one posts to them.
Who and What?
* You may post items For sale or Wanted in this forum.
* You may not sell anything here for a higher price than you paid for it unless:
- You have won it as a prize or been given it e.g under a sponsorship deal.
* You may offer to swap or give items away.
* Advertising of normal day-to-day fare by traders is not appropriate here.
- If you are a trader with a super-special offer that may honestly benefit the snowHeads community PM Admin with details.
* Job ads are considered commercial activity so you may not post these yourself. PM Admin for details.
How?
* State clearly in the Subject whether your item is Wanted: or For Sale: and what the item is.
If you are selling more than one item please start a new topic for each so you can name each item in the title (but no more than one post per item please as that's silly).
Titles like "Stuff for sale" or "I'm looking for..." aren't particularly helpful and will get a far less productive response.
Remember, the Buy/Sell forum is viewable by Guests and Search engines so an appropriate Title could draw very much more interest. It is also unwise to post your email address in your ad. as it will probably be inundated with SPAM before long.
* When you have sold an item please click the edit button on the right hand side of your initial post and add "SOLD" to the end of the subject.
Costs / Fees
Everyone knows that selling through ebay costs money (a set fee plus a percentage) - what it costs you to sell through snowHeads is left entirely to your discretion but we think it's fair you chip something in, in return for using the facilities. The 'Support snowHeads' link at the bottom of each page takes you to a page about donating/subscribing.
Some people donate some of the sale price to the site and/or offer a discount to super/mega snowHeads. These people help support snowHeads by subscribing, so it's nice to look after them
Alternatively you may wish to put something toward one of the worthy snowCauses described in snowAngels.
Either way declare your intentions in your ad. so people can feel all warm-and-fluffy about your offer which will make them want to buy your stuff more.
Remember to say whether your item is being offered exclusively through snowHeads or appears elsewhere.
ebay adverts
Ebay is a very good site for selling stuff because people who want stuff go there to look for it: that's why you advertised your stuff there. So you do not need to post links here telling people to 'go look at my stuff on ebay'.
However, if you do wish to link to an ad. on ebay, you may do so only under these conditions:
a) it must be stuff to do with snow.
b) you must link back from your ebay ad. to snowHeads.
Posts which link to ebay ads that do not link back are likely to just disappear
The nature of your link is up to you but it helps us if it contains appropriate text:
e.g.
Find me at snowHeads Like a ski club, only better!
Code: |
Find me at snowHeads<br><a href="http://snowheads.com" title="skiing and snowboarding">Like a ski club, only better!</a> |
or snowHeads - snow-cial networking!
Code: |
<a href="http://snowheads.com" title="skiing and snowboarding">snowHeads - snow-cial networking!</a> |
Other possibilities -
snowHeads - For skiers and snowboarders!
Just copy this code into your ebay ad.
Code: |
<p align="center"><a href="http://snowheads.com/" title="Ski Club 2.0"><img src="http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/images/snowHeadsdotcomKlik.gif" border="0" title="skiing and snowboarding" alt="skiing and snowboarding!"></a>
<a href="http://snowheads.com/">snowHeads - For skiers and snowboarders!</a></p> |
Or:
snowHeads - For Skiers and Boarders
Just copy this code into your ebay ad.
Code: |
<p align="center"><a href="http://snowheads.com/" title="skiing and snowboarding!"><img src="http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/images/snowHeadsdotcomKlik.gif" border="0" alt="skiing and snowboarding!"></a>
<a href="http://snowheads.com/">snowHeads - For Skiers and Boarders</a></p> |
Or simply:Find me at:
Copy this code into your ebay ad.
Code: |
<p align="center"><a href="http://snowheads.com/" title="skiing and snowboarding!">Find me at:</a><br><a href="http://snowheads.com/" title="skiing and snowboarding!"><img src="http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/images/snowHeadsdotcomKlik.gif" border="0" title="skiing and snowboarding!" alt="skiing and snowboarding!"></a></p> |
NOTE: To get the snowHeads links to work on Ebay you need to do this:
1. Use the 'Advanced Sell' option,
2. Do the write-up for the item in the 'Describe the item you're selling' section,
3. Paste in the SnowHeads code wherever you like in the description,
and the important bit
4. Click the 'HTML' tab just below the 'Describe the item you're selling' heading.
Step 4. will put HTML tags on all the text in the description and, hey presto, the beautiful SnowHeads logo will appear when you list your item.[/list]

By the way U, since you're on - does the excessive use of linked (external) smileys cause any problems? A couple of us seem to have started something of a revolution, so I'm hoping not!

Doesn't cause much of a problem with this site's bandwidth, only the url is transmitted from here, the image is downloaded from other sites. However, put too many big ones on and it'll slow down the download speed for our users. Generally not a problem if you are on broadband, but dial-up users may have problems.

admin, the code for the second link has a missing '>'. Not that it really matters but it should read as follows:
Code: |
<p><a href="http://snowheads.com/">Find me at:</a><br><a href="http://snowheads.com/"><img src="http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/images/snowHeadsdotcomKlik.gif" border="0" alt="snowHeads - people who like to ski, snowboard or generally roll about in snow!"></a></p> |
Having had to put a few snow-related items up for sale on ebay and having the wonderful resource here on SnowHeads to publicise said items, I have been able to work out that to get the SnowHeads links to work you must do this:
1. Use the 'Advanced Sell' option,
2. Do the write-up for the item in the 'Describe the item you're selling' section,
3. Paste in the SnowHeads code wherever you like in the description, and the important bit
4. Click the 'HTML' tab just below the 'Describe the item you're selling' heading.
Step 4. will put HTML tags on all the text in the description and, hey presto, the beautiful SnowHeads logo will appear when you list your item.

sorry about the '>'
Thanks for the detailed guidelines - I've copied them into the initial post.

You know it makes sense.

I will put this here as there is no where else for it. Maybe admin should create a feedback thread for buyers/sellers and sticky it.
Props to Hellbent for the Avalung pack. Good price, communication and postage. Would recommend him.

Just a quick heads up that as other forums have been subject to scam sellers/buyers we shouldn't assume that SHs is all cuddly and wonderful (though of course in general it is, apart from Lizzard )
Make sure you continue to use common sense.
Edit: For context this was posted in relation to a particular suspected scam buyer who pm'd most of the people who had skis for sale on one day.

Ok have an item on Ebay but didn't use the Advanced Sell option. Tried to put link in anyway but has only accepted the code as is typed above (no 1 option)
In fact I now cannot remove it Happy to leave it there but admin does this suffice and please may I link it back here?

You can either host them yourself on a photo sharing website or load them up to Snowzone - http://snowmediazone.com/the_zone/
Once you load them up you then use the IMG tags to link to the photo e.g.
Code: |
[img]http://www.snowmediazone.com/the_zone/data/500/medium/IMGP2838_2_.JPG[/img] |
When you post that IMG tag produces this:-

can we have a https linky?

No, of course not.
What we're asking is, if you advertise something here that you also advertise elsewhere, please mention on that other ad that you/your item are present on snowHeads.

@snowornever, I think the mediazone is no more. Just create an account with one of those image sharing sites (I use imgur), save your images there and link to that.

Not sure who needs to know this but in trying to use the codes from page 1 it wasn't displaying correctly in eBay. I could get the snowheads logo and everything working fine but the ebay page then went and hid the description of the item unless you clicked on a button to read the description and then nothing displayed. The page where I was listing also said the html was unsafe or some such when I put the code in.
