Guvnor, point taken, I doubt he's had much practice! Slightly off topic but I have to mention that my brother goes to the same gym as MJ. When my brother walked into the gym one day through the swing doors, he narrowly missed MJ's daughter by about an inch but she toppled over anyway trying to move out of the way. He braced himself for an MJ hairdryer effect but fortunately MJ had his back turned and the little girl didn't cry or anything. He was a bit relieved!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hayls, if MJ had taken offence, I expect your brother would also have been a bit relieved - all over the floor.

Hayls, as rugby was only just (technically) professional, bringing a level of it to English rugby would perhaps have been expected. I accept he did very well in organising the set-up, a lot better than the muppets in Wales at the time, the issue is whether he can adapt his knowledge to other non-team and higly technical based sports, and whether 'winning a WC' qualifies him to do so, figure head yes, technical based director, maybe, who knows. Still much too smug for me though:D

The Gala Buffet Dinner with Sir Clive (set for 29/9 in Glasgow) has just been cancelled due to lack of interest... http://www.basi.org.uk/ - is the reason price, Glasgow or Sir Clive?

Hmmm, a few hundred boozed up ski instructors fighting over the trough. Maybe DEFRA banned it.

BASI have always had a President. The former President was the late Eric Langmuir. Eric was the author ofthe Directory of Mountaineering, a book which became the foundation for all mountaineering instructional and guide courses. Eric was appointed the first Principal of White Hall, in Derbyshire, the first local education authority outdoor pursuit centre in the UK. He even had Joe Brown (climber) on his`staff. He then became the Head of Glenmore Lodge, the Scottish Mountaineering Centre. This was the venue where all BASI courses were once held. After Glenmore he became head of Leisure Services for Lothian Regional Council. As such he was responsible for Hillend Ski Centre. He was a goverment advisor on all matters relating to Outdoor Leisure and National Parks and as a father saw three of his children serve in the British Ski Team,Moira,Roddy and Sean. His involvement in, and his knowlege of the ski industry allowed him to be more than just a figurehead President and its a reflection on the Board of BASI (who approach possible Presidents) that they could not select a more suitable new President of BASI.

A well talented man, maybe the CW is to promote the organisation with his profile.

I think the lack of interest was due to location. Scotland's not that easily accessible.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yes, yes that's all very well, but did he single handedly save English rugby and win the RWC almost entirely by himself through the strength of his character, vision and management skills? Never mind this guff about mountains and snow

BGA, many people in the mountaineering fraternity do seem to speak of him with the same reverence even though the general public probably never knew he existed.

BGA. Have you not realized that skiing is all about traveling through snow covered mountains.
