Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

boarders, skiers and poles?

pam w, you have a point there. Kids usually don't use poles. But they are usually athletic and skinny, so they get up from the snow alright. It'll be quite a "discrimination" but skinny and athletic beginers probably ought to have their poles taken away from them and they'll learn a lot faster. Smile

But for the more average 1-week-a-year desk jockey, poles are neccessary. Think about having to learn snow plough as a beginer, then having to un-learn it and learn to parallel. There's a lot in skiing that one needs to go backward in order to go forward.

What a load of gobbledeegook!

My kids started off without poles and always got up fine, but I think kids bend differently to adults - you've only got to watch them get up from sitting on the floor to see that their flexibility lets them achieve what us old stagers can't Sad

For goodness' sake, Megamum, you're hardly an old stager, sounds like you lead an active life, don't give up yet. Sure, kids can get up easier, but some good muscles in the legs and tum help a lot.
