Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

3PMSF - Car Rental (hire) - Geneva

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Greetings!

This season, as documented on these forums too, France are mandating that a trip to the Alps will mean you must have 3PMSF winter tyres fitted. A step up from M+S from last season.

For years, I've happily used "winter" and "snow" tyre interchangeably. However, it appears (according to the EU) there is a difference.

* Snow tyre = M+S
* Winter tyre = M+S and/or 3PMSF

I have for years hired a car from the Swiss side at Geneva and driven to the French Alps. The key benefit here being that Swiss side, the rentals had snow tyres.

Now comes the question...

Is anyone aware of whether the Swiss side will have proper (EU compliant) winter tyres?

Cheers
Andy

@Haz, Yes, they will. Winter=Snow and neither = M+S which are for mud. Sort of.

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The rules are no different to what they've been for a few years. They're just going to enforce them this year.

You need chains or socks if you don't have 3PMSF tyres.

I'd imagine any hire car with winter tyres on will have proper ones on rather than M&S as that standard has been out dated for years.

@paulhinch, swiss companies will have 3pmsf otherwise their insurance is effectively invalid.
