Poster: A snowHead

Has anyone played around with the mounting point of the Scott superguide 95.
Do you think that factory is best or better more forward or further back.
Using pin bindings.

Just fit 'em & ski 'em
There must be a reason for the factory position, and if you fit them in another position you'll be continually havering about would they have been better if I'd mounted them elsewhere
Or mount then on an adjustment plate and change positions to see what difference you feel

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Mine are fitted as recommended, and they are fine for me. Do you often find you don't agree with the factory position? Most people will be fine with it, unless they are some kind of edge case.
Incidentally, another pair of skis I just bought comes with three marked mounting positions. I spoke to the rep about which they were using for the demo pairs, so that I could mount mine the same and he told me they always use the middle one because that will suit most people. I mounted a rail binding in the end, so I can move them anyway, but even the website states that the alternative positions are for fairly extreme cases (steep lines or acrobatics).

Yes I prefer my skis rear mounted by about 9mm
I've done this with other skis.
I have several in my quiver.
However this is my first lightweight touring ski with pin bindings
I'm used to fully rockered All mountain or Big mountain skis.
It took a while to work them out.
(I went to the SnowDome with them yesterday for the first time).
They definitely need skier input and to be driven.
However after initially regreting my decision, by the end of the session they felt great !
Very maneuverable although they can get locked in to a turn.
Only time will tell I suppose once in proper conditions.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I can assure you it does make a difference !
It's a boot size difference.
My question wasn't if you agreed with the measurement, it was if anyone had moved the mount point.

all depends on your angles in you boot, base board to collar and you binding delta. messing with it might help, but sorting out the other two first means you'll be able to mount at recommended, which is, as they say, recommended.

Have you really A/B tested a 9mm move? Must be difficult with drill holes?
I have superguide 88s. They are quite a traditional shape ski, fairly directional. I'd see no point in moving the mounting point back.

No I haven't repositioned, just mounted straight off 9mm back as that has worked for me in the past.
Jon who mounted my skis says that to move it to recommend isn't an issue as there's a titanal mounting plate underfoot

Ah, it's just you said it made a difference but not sure how you'd know that?

You know it makes sense.

When I said moving your skis 9mll makes a difference, I will referring to the previous comments from people that said moving your skis back that little would not alter anything for the average Joe.
In my experience moving a Ski back a boot size does make a difference in some instances.
I've done it myself in the past and definitely noticed a increase or lack of stability.
I was recommended to ski in a smaller boot by a very well known boot fitter, so I had to adjust my ski mounts on various skis.
I found this to be totally different especially when moving them forward.
I bought a set of mindbender 108 186 skis, and had them mounted to the smaller boot size.
When I reverting back to my original boot, which meant moving the ski back 9mll, the difference with incredible.
On my Whitedot ragnaroks, before changing boot size, and before I bought the skis,
I tried them out at the October test at the chill factor, and played around with the mounting position there with Jon at the Piste Office.
Again 9 mill worked.
It also transpires that Jon has his Ragnaroks rear mounted by a very similar amount.
However my initial post inquiry was to see if others had moved there ski mounting point.
It seem that this is very confusing to a lot of people who would only ever go with the recommended mount, nobody seems to want to go off piste in this respect
