Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Posting presents to Canada

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all. Looking for some advice please. Daughter is currently doing a season in Whistler and I'm looking to send her Xmas pressies out to her. One of her presents is an Apple Watch, which we got cheaply through Vitality (before anyone thinks I'm made of money Very Happy ). Anyway looks like we might have some import taxes to pay?? Anyone have any experience of sending things over to Canada? We are heading out late January so could always just give her it then but thought it would be nicer at Xmas.
Thanks in advance

Posting things to Canada from abroad, can be very slow. There will also usually be import taxes to pay.

You can calculate the taxes from a calculator which is somewhere.

Usually cheaper to buy in Canada, at least then you avoid the VAT in UK

@boabski,
Take it with you - at least you know it'll arrive, and in one piece.
For an Xmas present pay for something she desperately needs in resort that she can purchase herself - there's always something at the start of the season that you forget/didn't realise was essential.
And don't forget Lockets, for when the lurgy hits town!

I have posted things to Canada and as said before it is slow and also expensive, you really need at least two weeks to be sure they arrive for a specific date, more recently I have used Amazon.ca to send their parents gift vouchers to buy them something.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Last time I tried posting something to Canada (Toronto) it got stuck in customs for six weeks.

If you do decide to take presents out with you, and are looking for something to get shipped straight to her, I can happily recommend this independent clothing company: IRONHEAD

I stumbled across their tiny store in Kitsilano, Vancouver in February 2012 and bought two t-shirts which have lasted incredibly well.

Whilst quarantined in my hotel room in Whistler for the first 24 hours of a trip there in February this year, I ordered some stuff from their website and they shipped it straight away from Toronto. Think it turned up before my snowboard bag that BA had helpfully left at Heathrow!

I have no link to the company, other than being a contented customer, so I assume this isn't against the rules... is it?! Puzzled

Amazon.ca - tick gift wrap & send directly to her? Take her the watch when you are out there in January.

I've only shipped stuff from Canada, it took ages. I spent a month in Fernie last year, and ordered some skins in the first week. They still hadn't arrived by the time I left. I would definitely take the watch with you.

For future ref you can post gifts without duty but only if they are less than 60 dollars. You fill in an incredibly detailed customs form with the weight and value of each item. Canada does do checks, which is why they sometimes get held up for weeks at customs, so I doubt you would get "smart watch- value 59.99" past customs however good a deal you got Toofy Grin . We have shipped things to my son in Ontario and I would think you might arrive before the package if you are going out in Jan.
