Flying into Austria (LHR-INN with BA) to go to Italy (Corvara) (booked in jan 2000...)
Does any one know if there are checks at the brenner pass in either direction?
Has anyone got past BA check-in and the austrian border guards at Innsbruck without a PCR test as per the transit exemption?
Presumably the transit expemption allows you back into Austria from italy without any further tests

Last time I did the brenner pass was 2018 and there were no checks, don’t know what is like now. I am flying this sat to Inns going to Alta badia and I have taken the pcr. Far too risky to go without.

I'm going to Italy, flying to Innsbruck in two weeks. Crystal have just sent me an email to say Austrian requirements for entry don't apply to me but I need to show airline staff on departure from Edinburgh my holiday confirmation email, to prove my destination is Italy.

Lots of discussion on this specific issue here:

And also here:
https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=153006
I am also undertaking this quite specific journey on Sunday 16th, landing at Innsbruck at 12:15 and if the rules remain unchanged I will be doing the following:
Private rapid result PCR on Saturday afternoon (as the 48 hour rules mean my window for testing opens on Friday @ 12:15 for Austria, but in case we get very delayed, I want the test to have been taken as late as possible)
Printing PLF forms for both Italy AND Austria
Printing proof of triple vaccination which I have already tested works with Italian authorities using the GreenPassItalia App
Technically I don't really need to do most of the above, as I'm transiting through Austria to get to Italy, but as it's a private transfer, I'm leaving nothing to chance! If I were going with a tour operator I would almost certainly not bother with the PCR as I'd have all my booking details as 'proof' I were going to Italy directly...

@Harrow lady, Wonderful! Another piece of tedious and unnecessary paperwork ticked off my list! I was waiting until the requisite 72 hours prior to arrival to fill it out, but now I know I won't have to that's great! Thanks

@LukeRibs, thanks. I was planning on doing a austria compliant pcr as well because i dont trust ba check in and innsbruck border guards - but on that basis i should also do one before i go back into austria at the end of the holiday, but im not planning to because will have a flight ticket, and i dont believe that there is an active border at brenner.
@Harrow lady, there wont be any checks normally at brenner because its schengen but italy has requirements for europeans visiting, so how do they inforce them if they drive? I imagine they dont (it is italy after all). please let me know how you get on.

It is very unlikely indeed that there will any checks on the Brenner. Innsbruck airport is a different matter. The immigration folk there have been particularly difficult and have sent people back to the UK. If you are going to risk it without a valid PCR you will need to make sure you have every single piece of paper you might need plus a print out of the relevant Austrian regulations saying you can transit. I doubt an email from Crystal will cut much ice with an Austrian military police officer.
It does appear as if the regulations for Denmark, Holland, Norway & UK have only really been enforced for arrivals by air, there has been the odd report of a few checks on land borders but they have been few and far between, many of the hordes of Dutch visitors over the holiday period have seemed blissfully unaware of the need for PCR tests etc.

@neilkav, my question isnt what the requirements are, but if people have experience of them being applied.

@LukeRibs, a hotel booking in Italy should be enough proof of transit shouldn’t it? But don’t blame you for being careful.

@buchanan101, We're staying with a former airbnb host who has since become a friend, as such, even though he has emailed in German and English, to say he is hosting us for the month - I'm very cautious about using a personal email as 'proof' we're not staying in Austria? If it were an 'official' invoice from a tour operator for an established hotel, I might be more bullish. I have also got the taxi firm taking us to Italy to do the same, but again; I'm not 100% confident the email will hold water, as frankly; I could knock up something similar in 10 minutes on my own!
As such, I'm biting the bullet and booking PCR tests, which is frustrating as the timings involved mean I have to pay extra to get the fast turnaround results - but if it's the cost of getting on the mountain then I'll swallow it!

Fair enough - don't blame you at all. If we were flying in to Innsbruck rather than Salzburg I may well have switched our hotel booking to the Dolomites

We drove this route via Innsbruck a few years back. I don't remember there being much "Border" infrastructure as we entered Italy. But i have a vague recollection of stopping to pay a toll as you approach the border.

I too am travelling to Italy in Two weeks, flying into Innsbruck, Crystal state that you do not need to follow Austria's Covid rules as you are travelling straight to Italy Via Plane/Bus, we need to have our booking confirmation available to show in the airport stating our hotel destination.

We made it to Alta badia, flew with Titan airways, the lady at the check in asked to see the pcr test, she was actually very specific about it, she checked the date n time. At Innsbruck airport they also want to see the test result, not interested in anything else ie COVID qr or plf.

Sorry are you saying that check in at UK airport wouldn’t accept you were ‘transmitting’ austria? What happened when you landed in Innsbruck? Did they want to see PCR even though you were transmitting?
