Head Titans are easy to handle in all conditions and rock solid going straight downhill. 80mm underfoot is maybe a bit narrower than you were thinking but they're well worth trying. When my Titans delaminated I switched to Dynastar SpeedZone 14, which are stiffer and grippier than the Titans but narrow waisted so pure piste skis. Dynastar now do a SpeedZone 4X4 would cope with a bit of off piste but would be pretty solid on piste. https://www.dynastar.com/en-gb/product/speed-zone-4x4-82-ti-konect

Try the Nordica Enforcer for all round dependable off-Piste performance..I have 2 pairs, which get a lot of use in all conditions, throughout the season. However, I find at 100
underfoot they are a little wide for regular on-Piste skiing so I use other skis for that.

..sorry I misread the OP‘s thread..for solid on-Piste performance I recommend the Kästle MX83s ..when not off-Piste on my Enforcers, the MX 83s are my ski of choice for most on-Piste conditions..they are durable as well.

Ride the edges more and don't sit on the bases flat. If you let them run the largest arcs you possibly can from one side of the piste to the other it's almost as fast as straight-lining, will help improve technique, looks oh-so much cooler, isn't squirrely or wobbly, and gives much better sensations throughout ! Can be done on almost any ski, if your touch is good, but easiest on something with a 20m or more turn radius though. |
Yeah, I can do that, especially on the Mantras as they have a large radius. However there are times when I just want that head down, straight down the fall line rush, and that's where their flat base twitching makes my a*sehole twitch in unison with it!!!

Another vote for Head Titans. I'm 78kg and mine are 170cm. Great on piste, go through crud like it isn't there. Fun off piste but it isn't their natural habitat but not a hindrance. Even at high speed I find them stable. Try a pair of you can you may find they fit the bill

I got the enforcer 100s from 4 years ago. If you boss them they can do anything really nicely. If you get in the back seat in moguls etc they punish you, they aren't easy to bend super tight / back ends don't seem forgiving. For going straight down and general hooning they are great fun.
I'm advanced and 83 kg. Other skis are volkl deacon 84 and bent chetler 120. I'd say Enforcers are the least forgiving, but are grand all rounders

Motdoc My two pairs of Enforcers are the same width & vintage..I actually find them very adaptable and even smeary & easy to throw around when needed on steep & narrow off piste. As you say they do demand a sound technique. A proper „Alpines Fahrverhalten“ is a must - absolutely no skiing in the backseat. Certainly by comparison with my Kästle MX 83s & even my Atomic Crimsons the Enforcers are pretty forgiving..they were in their element today on fresh powder snow..

I have to admit, I do find the Enforcer Free range (on 104s) with more rocker the best I've tried if you do mainly off piste but still want a stiff ski that is fun on the piste and can pull tight carved turns. I took them down a deserted WC GS run and hitting 90kph could not find the slightest twitchiness in them.

I'm slightly of the opinion however, that given the OP's demand, nothing is quite going to satisfy ...

What makes you say that? I'm 99% happy with my current Mantras. I don't mind a little more on piste bias in exchange for rock solid straight line stability.

@greengriff, straight line stability. Anything with a modern sidecut is going to have a wee twitch on when completely flat. Wonder if a bit of rocker mitigates that.
My skis are very rarely completely flat but that's one of the joys of modern skis, you can go just as fast in a very long turn as you aren't scrubbing off speed

Ah ok. Now I get you. I assumed it was possible based on my experience as a snowboarder - my favourite nutter board was (is) a Volkl Coal boarder cross thing. It's got a sidecut as you would expect, but presumably a long radius as it's slow to turn (plus it takes enormous effort to force a short turn out of it) and basically just wants to go straight, but me is it solid and confidence inspiring in a straight line. It's old tech now so I assumed that there would be a ski that could offer something similar, but with a modicum of off piste prowess too.

@Scarpa, nah. I take my SGs out now and again. Very skiable even in powder. But they're quite short at 203.

@under a new name, I'd be scared of blowing a knee. I had the chance to take LBs Atomic SG skis out, he had 5 pairs but his old GS skis were about as much as I wanted to handle, I get knackered working those at speed.

@greengriff, Super G are between GS and a downhill ski. Pure race skis, 45m turn radius, usually 210 or so in length these days.

@greengriff, as @Scarpa, says, a bit straighter than the ones you linked to (which are Völkls cheater GSs).
I wouldn't choose them on a powder day, but if you find yourself on them and then you find there's powder, well, jolly rude not to, eh?
I find them very skiable, but I grew up on old skinny long skis.

Usually a wider shovel and slightly easier to manage turn radius. And often not as stiff. But even with SL or GS skis, try a companies dedicated race ski that they give to their sponsored athletes and you see the difference. I have a lovely pair of Elan GS in 182 with the older 27.5m radius and those are great on a quiet day, I've even taken them out in easy powder. But until you are doing 60kph+ you can't really feel them working and popping you out of a turn. Bloody tiring as an all day ski

Closest thing i'll get to using them will be when the indoor slope at milton keynes reopens, but at least i got them for a decent price!

Love that.
As will my wife who is also a turnaholic.
I am definitely not understanding those that straight line a pow field, opening up a little bit sometimes yeah but I don't get the fun in virtually straight lining. Each to their own though I guess.
