Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Via Lattea 2021

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
FaceBook users may want to look at the 3D photo posted by Al Mulino restaurant in Pragelato yesterday (about 1500m - 500 below neighbouring Sestriere). Great depth and more forecast today.

Via Lattea’s own webcams show a deep base, but are not great resolution, so it’s difficult to tell just how deep it is. If ever investment in webcams is needed, this is it. New fan guns have been on test too.

Good start so far for the southern side of the Alps!

Italy used to get a good snowfall every few years. It appears that the snow has shifted south (maybe the weather experts can comment on this) and Italy has had a fair few great seasons in recent times.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I certainly think it has always had big dumps, but infrequently, rather than a little often as in some northern areas. My subjective view is that there are more sunny days skiing as a consequence of less regular snow.

@Game of Snows, agree about the webcams. It surprises me that some areas have substandard cams when they must be such a great marketing tool.

As a comparison, the Val Gardena cams are fantastic (I realise it's a more affluent region) and normally make me want to get the next flight out there. Via Lattea may not have quite the same scenery, but it still has much to show off!

Yeah, surely a few decent modern cams can’t cost much compared to the main costs of staff, lifts, snow-making and grooming. Or even they could just post lots of clips on a FaceBook page.

Similarly, having a multi-lingual website with the news updated in all languages would help. Prali has a more attractive page and that seems to be a very small family run affair.

And Sestriere looking well stocked, even down at the bottom.

I saw some photos today from villages down the valley near Fenestrelle Fort (circa 1200m) and the snow was said to be at a settled depth of 1m to 1.5m this morning from a couple of days snowing. It’s still falling.

Fingers crossed we can get the vaccine deployed in time to salvage something of this ski season!

Hi all

Been searching through other posts but couldn't find the answer.

Went to Montgenevre a few years back and the red 100 over the top into Italy was closed meaning a long flat push along the golf course green to get over into Italy.

Has the crossover at the top reopened in the last few years?

I guess we need a 2022 page really, but as we are still in 2021 I will post here for now.

Is anyone here in the Via Lattea area and able to update us on the new lifts that were due to go in? Not sure if COVID has delayed that work, or given them time to get it done in peace.

From the webcams, it looks like something has changed at the top of Monte Fraiteve - more improvements to the transit area at the summit?

Fingers crossed for a proper season this year……
