Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Work has started clearing the trees to recreate the ‘Pilat’, the former ski run from alp de Suisa down into the south side of Ortisei. Described in the 1985 Good Skiing Guide as ‘an unpleasant red graded track engineered into the face, with netting to protect skiers from long drops’, this steep and long north facing run through the trees was abandoned in the early 90s. Its reinstatement with a modern artificial snow making system will no doubt attract more skiers up to the rather lovely Alpe de Suisa. When open, perhaps even this season (?) it should be a rather more pleasant addition.

At the bottom of the Pilat is the ‘Ronc’ a steep field above Ortisei which used to hold World Cup slalom events. Here is a street map view from underneath the mothballed tbar which used to serve the slope https://www.instantstreetview.com/@46.570534,11.667297,352.4h,-14.45p,1.56z

The new Pilat run will decend this field further to the east.

@Peter S,
Although a little unchallenging, Alpe di siusi is stunningly beautiful and has seen significant investment recently. We popped up there in Jan and were amazed how most of the previously austere looking concrete 'bunkers' are now fantastically swish hotels. Happy

@Peter S, thanks, good to know about developments to the circuit.
Alpe di Suisi seemed a quiet and beautiful area on a day trip from Arabba last February. As mentioned, relatively easy terrain, a good base for beginners and early intermediated maybe.
