Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I thought I would start this seasons thread, only as i couldn't see one already. Apologies if one has already been created!!

Should be some more snow tomorrow, though the snow limit is quite high, initially 2000-2200 and then dropping down to 1800-2000. Will give a further forecast update after mid-day when the local Dolomite forecast agency updates their forecast for the next few days.

Dantercepies looking tasty under a blue ski and 5 cm of snow. Only 3 months to go! Am really hoping for some fresh snow this year around early Feb. Not worried about snowmaking, of course...

We've booked our usual pre-Christmas trip to Selva, taking in the downhill racing on the Saslong.

December skiing has been on man-made snow during the last few years. Maybe we are overdue some early season largesse from the snow gods..?

@Fridge03, have stayed twice in Pozza di Fassa and the area between there and Alba/Penia is lovely. Not that big in terms of number of runs, but it's deserted!

Hi Albob, I mentioned it because I noticed the snow cannon running on some of the upper slopes.

I think I read somewhere that the target depth in the Alta Badia is 45cms of compacted snow. Presumably that’s the amount across their pistes that they know will last all season in most locations. Making more would be a waste.

And they may actually prefer to make snow rather than rely on natural cover. Artificial snow is predictable and denser and therefore better able to survive a thaw. The cosmetic stuff is a bonus Laughing Laughing

As @HugoC pointed out yesterday in the 'resort' thread there looks to be heap more snow coming in tonight and tomorrow. It's probably still too early for much of it to last but it's still great to see.

Thanks all. We can't wait. We think it's a great location to the parts of the Sella Ronda that appeal to us most. And with those two lifts giving us easy access to two different areas....it's going to be amazing!

Unusually for the Dolomites the outlook is very unsettled over the next week and looks cool enough for snow on the upper slopes.

Latest updated forecast for the Dolomites which are part of the Veneto region. This will specifically cover most of the Dolomite resorts apart from Val gardena, Seiser Alm and the top half of ALta Badia. But as these areas are so near to the Veneto region border, the same forecast will likely apply.

Veneto Dolomites Precipitation forecast:
"The amounts of snow will be significant with an average of 40/50 cm of fresh snow on 1600/1800 m. At 2000 m 60/70 cm will fall, locally up to 80 cm, while below 1200/1400 m the contributions will be very variable:

I went out for a ski on Marmolada today, decent enough snow cover to ski the piste from the Fedaia dam from the road, although a little thin for the last few hundred metres. Up by the hut at Pian Fiaconi there was pretty decent powder and there is more forecast. If you look at https://effis.jrc.ec.europa.eu/applications/seasonal-forecast/ you will see that rain anomolies are mainly in the blue this winter over the dolomites region, so here's hoping for a great season. Should make for some great early season conditions, the slopes open Nov 30th this year which... we'll be open from the word go so if you fancy a bit of snow before christmas, you know where we are!
