I wasn’t proposing a 124mm Alchemist as a multi-day touring ski (although would always recommend going Alchemist over Tour 1 in DPS - whatever width). Simply saying be careful of buying a specialist « steep ski » when most decent skis will be fine in steeper conditions and without excellent technique, a stiff, straight ski is unlikely to be as much fun in other off piste conditions where you’ll probably spend the majority of time using it. I’ve got Rustler 11’s with Shifts for touring but rarely tour more than a couple of hours and am typically touring to enjoy a descent. For long tours / multi-day tours weight on the way up is more of a priority so it makes sense to go lighter and if that’s your gig. Saying that, I might try and do the PdG on the Rustlers and beat a few weight weenies

I think my friend has a pretty perfect set up for what i would call adventure skiing.
BC navis freebird, with a radical toe and a superlite heel then technical zero g boots.
Though I guess id want to go narrower to about 85 if I was ONLY going to ski icey chutes.
Fwiw, my skis for that are beast 98s with superlites. They turn every time no matter how bad the conditions are, but when it's really icey they lack a bit of bite.

A Rad 2 toe + Superlite heel works just fine as well  . I had to shim the heel a tad to add some delta back in.

@BobinCH, hasn't killed Xavier de le Rue (yet). In fact he switched to boarding ice as a safe alternative after nearly getting killed in an avalanche

Yep, he’s quite something although if you see the cliff they named after him on the Bec de Rosses he certainly didn’t dial down on the big mountain! His bro’s not too shabby on a board either and his daughter is already winning junior FWT events on skis! Good genes...
