Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@ecureuil, I agree it is a factor.

Yes - there is indeed some bias in the selection, there are good reasons that some aspects are skied more that others. Avoiding these aspects will not make you safe.

No - simple guidance such as this is NOT better than nothing. In fact it may be worse, as skiers may avoid these aspects completely and instead choose a route that is far riskier in the conditions.

Yes - @Whitegold, is a twit as he consistently trots out this one element of the risk while portraying himself as some sort of expert. He offers no evidence (which you have helpfully done) simply a strong statement of knowledge. And he never seems to display or impart any understanding of other risk factors, thereby encouraging others to also ignore them. I would not allow a skier like that into any of my groups, they are inherently dangerous as they introduce bias into decision making.

Bottom line is get educated or get a guide.
