Is this the May 2018 recall, Or a new one?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Surely you heard about this recall months ago and sent it back then and didn't wait for the peak season to do it???
Sorry, but I can't see reflects badly on Ortovox at all.
BTW - 3 weeks seemed to be a standard response when I sent mine back in the summer (and mates got the same email) - it was turned around and returned in a week to 10 days.

@tangowaggon, I sent mine back in dec. They received it 2 days later. The update was done one day later and I had it back in about 10 days after posting.

If this is the same recall, it happened a full 9 months ago and there have been lots of snowHeads who have needed to avail themselves of it.
Everyone else seems thoroughly impressed by the service: eg. https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=137824#3243151
Perhaps own the responsibility for leaving it until the last minute - OK 70 miles but hey, 9 months! (That's only 8 miles/month)
You never know, it might yet even arrive back before you go and then there'll be no need for us to see any more of stampyfoot-tangowaggon, will there?

So be warned, Ortovox service is poor and if you are affected by this recall, be sure to give at least a month for turnaround.
I would have sent it sooner but the device was in storage with a lot of my other kit 70 miles away. |
Recall started sometimes in May 2018. If you are waiting for almost a year until 2 days before your trip, I don't think it's Ortovox fault. Their service is actually pretty damn good. I have sent mine on 30th of May, and got it back on 5th of June... not that bad, but in May or June, I wouldn't care if it would take 3 weeks to get it back.

Well, yes, I should have checked sooner whether my tranceiver was affected but three weeks to update software & 1 week to answer an email is still poor service.

I'd agree that 1 week is poor to respond to an email but 3 weeks for the update seems a reasonable worst case scenario.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

They were originally quoting a 6 week turnaround time although, as evidenced on these forums, most seemed to get their units back within 10 days.
This was a precautionary recall of lots of devices and there are bound to be peaks and troughs in the traffic of returned units: if you happen to be part of a peak, they can't just magically do them in no time. I think a 3 week turnaround is pretty fair at peak season and tangotrums are hardly likely to help.
Like I say, I wouldn't be surprised if you do yet get it back in time for the SOPiB - lucky you're not on the GnarliBuG now, eh?

In my work, I am used to arriving on a job on Monday, ordering the specialist equipment by 2pm and it arrives lunchtime Tuesday, the really slow suppliers take till Wednesday. Even custom made items are on site within the week.

Full marks to you for admitting this.
I second the idea that, ideally, you should change the thread name and email Ortovox saying 'Thank you and sorry for earlier comments' too.
