Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bindings advice please

I’m wondering what the rules are ref binding. On the dry slope, with my height, weight and age factored in my bindings are 3.5. I’ve fallen over a few times and the skis have come off quite easily and it’s been fine.

I’m now in snow and when I fell over yesterday, they wouldn’t come off and I couldn’t get back up again. Luckily I had assistance because I’d still be there now I think. When we went for lunch I have to get the kids to press on them to release.

I spoke to the chap and he appeared to alter them but they aren’t any different.

What is the rule of thumb.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Even when set correctly they might not release in a low speed fall. When that happens you can get twisted into some strange positions. If nobody is around to help you need to find a way to push the heel release with your pole.

When it comes to releasing them manually by pushing the heel release - that can still require quite a bit of pressure even if the DIN setting is low.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you get the hang of it, and are lucky and strong and in the right position, you can actually release them by hand. Sometimes the only way if you've no poles, so worth an indoor practice. Much loud swearing, shouting and cursing is also helpful Laughing

Also very worth practising getting yourself untangled, turned around as necessary and getting back to your feet with both skis on, one ski on (uphill and downhill) and so on. On your own. With and without one or both poles.
Willing helpers are not always around when you need them, and are guaranteed not to be there when you need them most.
30 seconds of feeling sorry for yourself is allowed; the duration of feeling angry at lack of willing helpers is down to personal choice and circumstance.

Thanks guys, that’s really helpful. Looking at the calculator holidaylovers, it seems it’s about right then. I’m just being a weakling!!

It was indeed a slow fall frejul so that explains that. I caught my tail in a choppy bit just as I was joining the piste.

Noted davkt, that makes sense.

Will definitely do some work as suggested grizzler. It’s not something I’ve ever done before so I’ll definately give that a go. I’m only ever angry at myself when I fall. Why should other peoples’ Runs be interrupted by my poor skiing? I must admit that I do always help others though if I can because it really is the worst feeling. Cheers
