When we had riots in the UK they went for the shoe shops and nicked trainers.

If I recall, the Croydon riots were non-trivial. I'd say be careful about assuming it wouldn't happen here. The current UK political landscape is hardly Strong and Stable.

I was offered a croissant by the one of the Gilets Jaunes Saturday AM at the roundabout by Decathlon in Publier.
I think the more militant ones must have gone to Paris for the day.

Driving a car Ive been waved through toll gates most of the last two weeks as long as you toot and wave your gilets jaune in solidarity although not so lucky driving a van however.
When I have engaged about the causes I'm told country folk can't afford to eat and use petrol because the taxes are too high but when I ask if they are happy to work 35 hours a week, be paid final salary for a year if let go and retire at 50 well "tout le monde semble être heureux" ....another fine example of cakeism.

Is this just a Saturday event or is it now 24/7? Whats the best strategy for Coquelles - A26 to Chamonix valley on a Friday in 2 weeks?? Super early start or just normal?

I dove down from Calais to Serre Che last Friday and did not see one hint of a protest, though was on autoroute all the way until Grenoble, and I was worried as traffic was so bad at Grenoble but was just hitting there at the wrong time on a Friday.
Here in Serre Che on the South side of Briancon, there is a permanent gathering of Yellow Vests but I have not see them stopping anyone, four times I have driven past.
Only immediate effect that Lidl's shelves were very empty of vegetables and meat/dairy with a sign on the door explaining it was due to the strikes, so are their drivers involved as there were no stock issues in E.Leclerc ?
And can you imagine British Police getting away with hammering people with batons like the good old CRS do
