Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Aquariaz

Hi

Off to Avoriaz at the end of the month. Has anyone been to Aquariaz? What is it like and also what is the "dress code" in terms of swimwear? Do you have to wear tight trunks or are swimming shorts the order of the day?

Many thanks

Griggs

Bermuda shorts are ok , can be very busy and it's not open on Saturdays , I discovered this after driving up from Morzine in a blizzard and trudging from the car park :0(

We went in the summer and queued for an hour to get in. Small, disappointing. The kids of course loved it.

Personally I would rather be skiing.

Cold. Read the Tripadvisor reviews. We had to take the kids to the showers to warm them up

the flash new pool in Les Saisies is also reputed to be cold - and absolutely no shorts allowed. it's big and rather beautiful - but really, who wants to go to a cold pool in a ski resort? If the resorts can't afford to heat the places properly maybe they shouldn't build them?

I also found Aquariaz cold even in summer! The half pipe slide is exciting and the rest is fun for the kids..a bit like centre parks. However I like doing a bit of proper swimming and there was no chance of that in Aquariaz. The Jacuzzis were also a bit ineffective due to being too cold. I much preferred Forme D'O in Chatel.

I liked it, as did the kids and we'll probably go again a couple of weeks time.
But it is far too cold, even the kids couldn't cope with the cold water and air temperature in the place, we were all shivering and blue after about 20 mins when we left.
Hopefully we just went on a bad day and it will be better next time.

Thank you so much for all the feeedback - very much appreciated. May be tempted to give it a try at some point during the week. Hoping for some new snow this coming weekend for Avoriaz. Anyone else going to be in resort on the 29th March? We are staying at Club Med for the week ans are really looking forward to it.

Is the Les Saisies pool for naturists then?? What with it's 'no shorts allowed' rule Toofy Grin.

I might consider it - although the other lads might be jealous Laughing

no, like lots of French pools the rules require proper swim trunks only - speedos style. Big baggy board short stylee not allowed.

Hi All

Many thanks for all the replies. Weather potentially cooling down at the back end of this week with the possiblilty of some snow at some point although no one really sure how much at this stage. Trend for next week looks to be cooler which has to be good for preserving the snow. From the webcams the snow does not look too bad to be honest and certainly much better than the last time I was in the PDS in April 2011. Fingers crossed the weather gods play nicely and deliver the cooler temps and a little top of snow between now and the 29th. Still plenty of time !!

Monie and Dave

Thanks for the message. We have four in our party. Myself and Mrs L, our 10 years old son and a family friend. What sort of level are you all? Don't want to hold you all back !!

Check out the new pool in chatel - http://chatel-formedo.com/en/

Absolutely excellent (IMHO) - no issues over boardies versus budgies although the websites suggest budgies are encouraged outdoor as well as indoor pools. Kids area, lanes area and crystal clear water. Feels a little expensive for a single visit but the weeks pass is good value. Interesting changing room layout and futuristic lockers but not that hard to get the hang of

Very recommended. Located close to the spar supermarket just a road or two uphill from avalanche bar

Hi Griggs,

This will be our 5th trip, but I'd say we are intermediates. My husband and youngest both ski and my oldest and myself both ski and board. Oldest son is pretty good at both, youngest seems to have more control than it looks like he has. Husband and myself slowly getting the hang of it. We are very relaxed, and not into doing miles, more often than not we are on the lookout for the next coffee and crepe. Like to travel around the PdS area a bit, but not too far.

Also meeting up with my youngest sons fiend from his new school, who is also staying in Avoriaz that week with some family (only found out about this recently, it's a small world) They are more or less beginners after a week a couple of years ago. They have 3 adults, a 14 yo, 11 yo and two 7 yo in their group.

Always nice to spend time on the mountain with other families!

And thanks for the tip Bertie Bassett - will check out the pool in chatel.

Hi Griggs

I'm heading to Avoriaz on Sunday 29th, with my family of absolute beginners - I've been boarding for the last 18 years. So if you see a party of 5 nervous skiers being led cheerfully down the slope by a snowboarder Daddy, then that's us!

Tom
