Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

URGENT replies sought leaving tomorrow- Portes Soleil, Megeve or Grand Massif?

Help from people on the ground please!

Leaving first thing tomorrow for Morillon but worried about lack of skiing for intermediates and one advanced member of group.

Are we better off driving to Les Gets each day and picking up the Portes du Soleil (22 mins according to google maps)?

Or going to megeve (post on here says poor snow coverage and stones?) which is 47 minutes away.

Or do we stick with Le grand massif with only 19 reds and no blacks open across the whole area?

Anyone currently out there, or recently returned please help with piste report.

Stick or twist? If twist, where?

Happy New Year

Thank you

@Snowsartre, the Grand Massif and Portes du Soleil threads are saying the same thing - getting worn in places, with stones, twigs etc. poking through. You might as well stick but buy day passes and do various day trips if you're worried that no one area has enough for the full duration of your holiday. There will be good bits and not so good bits in all of those areas.

Snowsartre, the Ardent bubble would be the place to drive to if you did fancy exploring the PdeS - rather than Les Gets itself

@Snowsartre, Read the GM snow reports thread, skiing is reasonably tough at the moment considering the conditions, and it may snow this weekend, just depends how cold.

I agree that entering the PDS via Ardent (or Les Prodains) is a better bet than Les Gets. The snow at Avoriaz is much better and worth the extra driving time vs Les Gets.

Ardent is better, it's free to park, the car park at Prodains is 5 euros per day. Also the queues to get back down if there isn't enough snow to ski down are worse at Prodains - we were there Christmas week.

As others have said - day passes are the way to go. Grand Massif and Les Gets/Morzine are very similar areas anyway, Morillon will give you easy access to Les Carroz, Samoens and Flaine - plenty to do for all... avoid off piste in Flaine though as its dangerous at the best of times, but with thin cover is very dangerous. The drive up the Les Get is about 20 mins (or Morinze about 25-30). There is also Praz de Sommand for a change for a day... about 25 mins (left turn of the Les Gets road), but the lifts are a bit slow.
