Wind has swung SE. Temps have dropped to -4, canons going full belt throughout the valley. That's more like it.

Looking at the webcam tonight, and the snow cannons at full blast all over the mountains

yesterday I looked at a Corvara webcam -- NO SNOW (hotel arkadia)
Today I looked and -----------------------SNOW ! (well a dusting ...)
Plan de Gralba snow cannons going full tilt at 10.00 am
It's reported that they had 5cm on the tops last night. This and the canons have certainly given a visual improvement to the area. Looks like more due in the next couple of weeks albeit at a low volume, although whether it will snow and in what quantity looks uncertain.

One slope open on Kronplatz! Well, it's a start.

Might be a bit crowded at Christmas if these conditions continue. Looks from the webcams like St Ulrich is getting a dusting tonight. |
Second slope open .....

@Mollerski, I love your optimism. At this point I gave up on any idea of offpiste, all I want is to have Santa Cristina white when I arrive on the 20th.

Runs from the top of Plan de Gralba today, courtesy of Alpinforum |
That's Piz Sella, there's a large concentration of canons up there. Looking very promising nevertheless. It's from there on down to the village which is more of a concern.

The opening of more slopes is planned
http://m.dolomitisuperski.com/en/dolomiti-live/news/more-than-100-lifts-and-150-km-of-slopes-are-open_mn1053098
It will be interesting to see just how far the artificial snow making goes. I understand great majority of the slopes in the Sella Ronda and Seiseralm areas are covered by snowmaking . If the temps are right, I guess almost the whole area could therefore be open for Christmas. Looks like dustings of snow during the week although Thursday gets warm - a Foehn perhaps. Ideally the dustings would create universal visual whiteness with the artificial slopes providing the skiing!

Just in Selva, conditions pretty good considering the weather so far. Did the Sella Ronda today, 90% of pistes are powder other 10% a bit icy. Snow cannons on full blast yesterday so the circuit was a pleasure to ski today. Hardly any queues and sun is shining.

@WackyDUK,
Sounds good. Little or no sign of snow in the short term forecast however.

@WackyDUK, thanks for the update. They are saying on the German Alpinforum site that Plan de Gralba, the Edelweisstal and Belverdere are particularly good if you haven't tried them yet.

Agree not much forecast but before we flew out we were fearing the worst. Have skied 4 full days round the dollies and although a lot of the snow may be manufactured there is a lot of great pistes to ski.
@pjd thanks for the tip Belverdere was great today and the views from Pordoi pass today were stunning.

That's for 3,000 metres in the "Sella Ronda" which is an absolutely huge area. I'd take that with a pinch of salt ...
