Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Might be a bit crowded at Christmas if these conditions continue. Looks from the webcams like St Ulrich is getting a dusting tonight. Little Angel

It's reported that they had 5cm on the tops last night. This and the canons have certainly given a visual improvement to the area. Looks like more due in the next couple of weeks albeit at a low volume, although whether it will snow and in what quantity looks uncertain.

From our friends on Alpinforum. The high up pistes that are open in Canazei are in good condition. Two more cold nights and they are hopeful that enough additional artificial snow can be created for the World Cup race to go ahead Little Angel

Probably a liftie. Confused

Plan (de Gralba) has been bashed. That's a big step in the right direction. I doubt if they'll fully open until Plan is skiable.

No real snow in the forecast, but at least it's cold enough to run canons. The wind still needs to shift out of the S and W and swing N or E. It's gonna be OK, give it another 3/4 days. Madeye-Smiley

@Mollerski, I love your optimism. At this point I gave up on any idea of offpiste, all I want is to have Santa Cristina white when I arrive on the 20th.

Heh, the dreams I had at the end of November...

As I said, all I want now is 10 cm to fall down to Santa Cristina so it looks nice and white when I rock up on the 20th.

@horizon,

Me too, we're there on Jan 11th.

If it's any consolation, we've skied the valley in the 2nd week in Dec for years and not been caught out.

The closest we came being green fields on the cams on the Fri, the Sat we travelled it dumped. Decent skiing until the end of the week when it then began to warm up and melt. It didn't then snow again until the 2nd week in Jan. Confused

As long as the temps stay down, it should be OK. Madeye-Smiley

That's Piz Sella, there's a large concentration of canons up there. Looking very promising nevertheless. It's from there on down to the village which is more of a concern.

The opening of more slopes is planned

http://m.dolomitisuperski.com/en/dolomiti-live/news/more-than-100-lifts-and-150-km-of-slopes-are-open_mn1053098

It will be interesting to see just how far the artificial snow making goes. I understand great majority of the slopes in the Sella Ronda and Seiseralm areas are covered by snowmaking . If the temps are right, I guess almost the whole area could therefore be open for Christmas. Looks like dustings of snow during the week although Thursday gets warm - a Foehn perhaps. Ideally the dustings would create universal visual whiteness with the artificial slopes providing the skiing!

Just in Selva, conditions pretty good considering the weather so far. Did the Sella Ronda today, 90% of pistes are powder other 10% a bit icy. Snow cannons on full blast yesterday so the circuit was a pleasure to ski today. Hardly any queues and sun is shining. Very Happy

@WackyDUK, thanks for the update. They are saying on the German Alpinforum site that Plan de Gralba, the Edelweisstal and Belverdere are particularly good if you haven't tried them yet.

Agree not much forecast but before we flew out we were fearing the worst. Have skied 4 full days round the dollies and although a lot of the snow may be manufactured there is a lot of great pistes to ski.

@pjd thanks for the tip Belverdere was great today and the views from Pordoi pass today were stunning.

That's for 3,000 metres in the "Sella Ronda" which is an absolutely huge area. I'd take that with a pinch of salt ...
