Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR Bonatti Couloir

Poster: A snowHead
The Bonatti (or North) couloir on Petit Mont Blanc on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc range is an absolute steep-ish skiing classic line. Guy, Oli and I had talked about this line a few times in past springs but never quite had the conditions or free time at the right time to get in here. On Sunday, along with Jon & Rhiannon we hit the jackpot with great conditions - 1000m of good cold snow with a stunning back drop!

Guy on the first abseil in - 15m gets you to a second anchor, from where 20m was enough to hit skiable snow:

Rhi at the bottom of the second ab:

Trusty steads for the day - my Whitedot Skis Ranger Carbonlites even took their own 'selfie', with the West Face of Mont Blanc as backdrop (and looking pretty thin this spring sadly...):

Yum yum:

Rhi high in the couloir:

Oli:

Guy throwing some shapes:

'The gift that keeps on giving' - from the top the glacier looks reasonably close, but the more pitches you ski, the more you realise it is still a long way down!

Jon:

And finally... 1000m of continuous steepness later:

Happy gang!

Balancing act on the moraine ridge - the start of a 12km walk out (yes my feet are still sore now...):

Thanks to Guy, Oli, Jon and Rhi for the great company - another top day in the mountains - the season isn't over yet!

Mosha Marc, in the last pic we are walking down into Val Veny off the Miage glacier - you come out just above Arp Vieille. The couloir is on the SW side of the Miage Glacier...

Great TR
Quick question - faced with a 12km walk out in touring boots I think I'd carry a pair of trainers / approach shoes. I say I think because I've never done it! Was the terrain so rugged (or perhaps occasional sections when you could get your skis back on) that you really needed to stay in tour boots?
