Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@pam w, I definitely would dig out the bioskin knee support. Must admit I am never going ski again without my knee supports. Jonathon gave a really good explanation of how they will help when we have damage in our knees and it was to do with the brain using the extra information it gets from feeling the support bandage on the skin to make up for the lack of signals it is getting from the damaged knee.

Hi do you mind me asking which Bioskin support you have used as there seems to be a few options?.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Mine is the patella stabiliser one as I bought specifically when I had a week VMO muscle which meant it was firing slightly slower than my other one. I use that one one knee. I also have a hinged Meuller knee support which I use on my knee with half an ACL left in it.

Both were bought on specific recommendation from my Physios at the time.

@Tinkling, mine is a very skinny sort of one. http://www.bioskin.com/bio-skin-braces-and-supports/knee-braces-and-supports/standard-knee-skintm.html

useful actually, googling that, as the advice in the discussion about wetting the inside of the top of the thing to stop it slipping (which it does tend to do) sounds useful.

I could probably do with something a bit heftier, really.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hey everyone. I am new to the forum and this thread caught my attention right off the bat. I actually work as a treatment adviser for soft tissue injuries and I can't even believe how common meniscus tears are! I hear of MCL and ACL tears once in a while, but meniscus tears, every single day. A lot of doctors will recommend surgery right away and say it is because the meniscus gets 'no blood flow'. It is true that the meniscus gets very little blood flow, but it is a living tissue and therefore does get some. Because the knee gets very little blood flow, it is a very slow healer. There is a Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST) that I highly recommend for anyone suffering from meniscus tears or partial tears of any knee ligament (ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL, Patellar). It is an energy web within a knee wrap that promotes the circulation you need (via electro-magnetic energy), deep down below the dermal level, in order to heal. I've put in a link for more info on meniscus tears. Happy healing.

Glad you said that I was somewhat dubious given my experience with my meniscus tears. I have also removed the link as it was smelling somewhat witch a bit pork like.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Link or no link, I was honestly just trying to help. I live in a touristy skiing town and deal with these things all the time. What makes my job as great as it is, is that I get to hear success stories everyday about injuries like this...no surgery required. Just wanted to share, that's all.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@Maizie88, sorry if the reaction to your first post was rather severe. Welcome to snowheads, anyway. snowHead @Jonathan Bell, by the way, is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knees.
