and 'what length skis should I buy?' I'm guilty of this one.

The best answer I have seen to this question is multiply your weight in kilograms by 2 and 2 for each week of skiing you have done and that is how long your skis should be in cms.

"Do you speak Austrian?"
"Why don't you want to stay skiing on the piste, it's easier you know?"
"My shoe size is 7, which ski boots will fit the best?"
"Which ski resort is best for a one armed mad axe murderer who likes cruisy reds?"
Q. "I'm going to ski obergurgl in March 2011, can't wait so excited. Where should I rent my skis from?"
A. "Try the butchers or the local petrol station"
"I've just spent 55 thousand quid on an SUV, kitted the family out with ski equiment and fur lined jackets for another 5 grand or so. Booked the holiday for another 6 grand. Do I really need Winter tyres they look so expensive?"

I would guess that answer came before the days of "shaped" skis?

I heard this from a guy shopping for boots:
"Excuse me, I am an intermediate skier, and i need boots. Will these (holding up a pair of Lange boots with flex rating 150) suit me fine?

Sorry, but I don't see why that is a particularly stupid question.
Most people would have no idea at all what a particular "flex rating" means - indeed they have only been standardized at all for short time (myself, I wouldn't have a clue - I don't even know whether higher ratings mean more flex or less flex).

alex_heney, you are right about that some people have no clue about flex rating. i don't blame that guy, he probobly didn't know.
higher flex rating means stiffer boot. intermediates (like he claimed to be) take 60 ones. 150 is used for racing and are a pain in a..s really!

fess, Thanks.
I don't suppose you would have any idea how a Head Edge 8.0 from 2004/2005 season would map onto the standard ratings?

bertie bassett, why is that a stupid question? It's certainly one to which several conversations and emails with Dogtag insurance have failed to find an answer (see the thread on Dogtag). It is, perhaps, one of the more important unasked questions.
