Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Another tragic death in 2 Alpes

@pam w, I totally agree with you. As long as I don’t have to suffer the smoke.

I agree too, very strongly. The resort bares no responsibility whatsoever in my view. The mountains can never be made safe, we have to bare responsibility over ourselves. Unfortunately that means there will be accidents.

Though you could say that it should have a. bye-laws in place to reduce alcohol consumption, and b. more policing of the streets. Trouble is a. would reduce resort income, and b. would be a cost on the resort.

It's an old-fashioned view, I know, but I think there's a point where people must be deemed to be responsible for their own safety. I also think they should be at liberty to get as drunk as they wish, provided they don't harm anyone else in the process and that adults should be at liberty to smoke themselves to death, leap off high cliffs in wing-suits or ski off piste without a transceiver. Unwise as all those activities are.

It's all covered in this website .. https://darwinawards.com/

Oh come on! Alcohol is a legalised, heavily taxed, mind altering drug and the responsibility for this lies at the feet of local politicians. Bet your life they’d do something about it if was the son of someone prominent.

About a year ago a skier skied of a cliff and died and against the backdrop of ‘It’s dangerous there’ ‘They need to put signs up’ ‘Why isn’t there a Barrier?’ I said it was evolution at work. Well, the usual snowHead virtue waving was triggered. ‘Simply dreadful’ ‘Troll’ ‘Evil’ ‘Blasphemer’ and out came the village pitch forks. A totally sober skier goes BASE jumping to their death and the Community of Eternal Mourning starts wailing about it. This happens and it’s ‘Evolution’ ‘Drunken idiot’ ‘Totally deserved’ ‘Put the body on public display as warning to others’.

PATHETIC!

I think the way some people are talking about these accidents is weird to say the least.

I remember this happening in 1990.

My sister Fiona Murphy was one of 2 girls that died in a fall at les Deus Alpes in March 1990. I have never felt able to visit the site but next year will be the 35th anniversary and I am not getting any younger so I am planning a visit. To make the visit as meaningful as possible can you help me to source reports and details of the incident. She was only 24 and was visiting with a small group of M&S Managers who were celebrating qualifying as Managers with a short trip to the resort. I would be very grateful indeed to find out as much as possible prior to my visit. Many thanks in advance. Tim

I've marked a red blob on this photo where this normally happens, where the photo in the news article is taken. Nothing below until Venosc 800m or so lower. Further round it isn't quite as sheer. In fact there is a footpath down and a mountain bike path too.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any sources of reports that might enable me to join the dots before I arrive? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Tim,
I'm sorry for your loss.

I would contact the town hall in French to see if they have any records and the Gendarmerie but it is a long time ago.

As per our PMs I'll help however I can although I'm moving away from Les Deux Alpes in the very near future. I'll also talk to an English friend who was probably here then and still is. Similar advice re Mairie but also would the British Embassy or Consulate (Paris or Marseille) be able to help.

Charlotte wasn't here all that season, just Christmas and New Year but there are several Brits who were and are still around. I've sent a PM with contact info for them. Good luck and we'll keep in touch although very shortly I'll be 500km from here.

Also email Dave Morris who was a key instructor there until his move to Courchevel. He is now in real estate and has this website. It was before he moved to live there but it was still talked about even in 2000 and he may have some helpful details
