I've not met anyone famous on the ski slopes, but the celebrity count from last years holiday in Ibiza was ok, Emille Heskey, Vernon Kaye, June Patpong, Dave Pearce, Pete Tong, Judge Jules, and Kate O'Mara. Not just spotted, but all of them had a conversation of sorts with at least one member of our group.

Well you have to wonder about someone who wears low slung salopettes with half their back bottom and tummy showing... like to see her try that one in Louise in January!

If ancient history counts, around 1977, I shared a lunch table at Snowbird's mid-mountain restaurant with George Kennedy, Sylvia Kristel & some of the other members of the cast of Airport 80 (which I think also goes by the name Concord - Airport 79): http://www.allwatchers.com/Topics/Info_24839.asp
Anyway, the cast was in Utah filming the scene depicting an emergency landing in the Alps. Here's what I remember:
1) Kennedy seemed to be a genuinely pleasant, down-to-earth, courteous, non-assuming kind of guy.
2) One of the actresses with him (Sylvia Kristel, I think) was exactly the opposite. She got all huffy after she reached over, tried to take something from my lunch tray, and I stopped her, pointing out that the same item was available 20 feet away for 50 cents. The real reason behind her annoyance was probably that I didn't have a clue who she was and George Kennedy was beside himself with laughter over the incident and said something like "That's telling her. She usually gets every single thing that she wants".
3) As I was leaving, some guy came up to me and asked if I wanted to be an "extra" (an anonymous skier) in their movie. I agreed and met them the next day at Alta where they had a huge number of barrels of burning oil placed around the flat Albion basin area (the presumed landing site in the Alps), producing columns of sooty smoke. After standing around doing nothing for an hour, I asked some questions and realized that I might be waiting and not skiing for the rest of the day, I was doing so at my own expense, and was not going to get paid one dime. My decision was easy - I skied away and blew my one chance at Hollywood fame. Subsequently, I also found out what Ms. Kristal was famous for.

Ott Gangl, ever since I met up with a few snowHeads in Val Thorens at Easter I have been fascinated by how my mental picture of posters and the reality is usually completely different. You, Ott, can be a bit "Tiggerish" with your posting. But you look so cuddly! May I offer you a beer?

He probably was just trying to get on your good side so you would tell another "Sigi" story.
How 'bout re-posting one for the folks on this forum? I bet they would like it.

PG, spent several night in bar in Arc 2000 talking to American speed skier (native American guy) and discussing the unfairness of the rules they'd decided to apply to his helmet. As the French guy broke the world record that week, and he was his nearest rival............................. The Swedes also drank in the bar . Great athletes !!!

Helen Beaumont, I vaguely know that they have some strict rules about shape/size/material/aerodynamic 'additions' because of safety concerns in the event of a fall at such high speeds. On the lower speed production skis a standard helmet is used.... What was the problem with his gear?

I think the problem was his helmet was too large to fit thro' the hole the judges had cut in a piece of chipboard. As he had used the helmet (decorated with tribal emblems etc) for about 5 years, and hadn't had any problems, I think he felt a bit cheesed off, and indicated it was the usual reaction of the French to a bit of healthy competiton. He had the piece of wood in question and it was very roughly cut into a circle. WE could see just by looking that it wasn't symmetrical !!!

I love the story of the girl who shared a 2 man lift with a young guy and during the journey asked him what he did for a living, to which he replyed that he worked in London for his family business. After she got of the lift somebody told her it was Prince William!

In Verbier, end of Feb. I was in the Farm Club 'till the early hours. Apparently Prince William (or was it the other one?) was in the night before.
I don't think he would have recognised me if he was at my party

End of March Tignes, Prince Harry was supposed to be inKlosters according to the press - but lack of snow there. Thought I saw him in Tignes - wasn't very sure (he was wearing goggles) - so didn't stop and gawp - but when I got to the lift at the bottom two fo my sons had seen him and had independently thought the same...... so that's a definite maybe

Princess Anne used to hang out in Morzine when I worked there and seemed very nice. Did have one obnoxious paparazzi ask me to take a camera into the pub and take a candid piccy. HRH gets my vote for joining in with Flower of Scotland so said crap journo got some candid comments on his parentage and his camera got tested for water resistance. It wasn´t.
I, of course, am a legend in my own lunchtime. Une petite bouteille de Gamay a la terrasse anyone?

Also, I had the funny experience of finding a whole bunch of WC racers putting up gates in Val dÍsere early last December on the OK DH and giving it a good belt on the way down? Early informal practice would that be? Very disappointed that they wouldn´t let us join in.

Beat this male
Granted it was not on piste or anywhere near snow, but Jennifer Aniston on the Kings Road in 1997 and Kylie Minogue in a bar in Sydney about 15 years ago - not bad, eh?
Other celeb spottings over the years include Dustin Hoffman in London; Paula Yeates & Michael Hutchence in London; Bob Geldof in Dublin and loads of Eastenders cast live in Crouch End where I live. Also in Crouch End are several musos from Travis. Fay Ripley on Hampstead Heath. Teddy Sheringham with stick up his **** in London bar.
Shall I go on?
Trust me. It saves having to buy OK or any other silly celeb magazine. I'm just very observant!
