@clarky999,
Maybe you are forgetting about Vorarlberg? The Rhinevalley cities (Bregenz+Feldkirch+Dornbirn) are approx. equal in size to Innsbruck
And few Vorarlberger head to CH obviously.
Last year Lech-Zürs reached their ‘skipasslimitierung’ on several days between christmas and newyear.
That makes
14.000-/-10.000 beds=4.000 daytrippers for Arlberg-West, excl. Warth!
Both Arlberg-West and East will have few lifts open. Ischgl stays closed....
Might get interesting?

@Langerzug, good point, though I’d have thought most in Vorarlberg would get the Ländle Card, which I think also doesn’t include the Arlberg? When I lived there I only had the Montafon pass, but that was before the Ländle Card was introduced.

Seems a strange move to open lifts in the middle of a global pandemic, whether they are classed as public transport and therefore allowed is immaterial imv it is hardly essential travel. Pretty disappointed in this decision, not on a personal basis, I think it’s increasingly apparent there’s little chance of skiing this season for U.K. visitors, but more on the grounds that they are putting their own people at risk. Any risk for a leisure activity seems one too far imv.
If you lived close to a ski resort in Austria would you have the same opinion, would you stay at home and not go skiing?
I can answer that question, and it's a yes for me. And I do wear a 3 layer mask that has a microfilter that states it filters out 95% of micro particles. The problem that I have seen skiing, is that a lot of people, as in the majority of people are skiing with just a face covering that is at best a 2 layer material. It might provide some measure of limited efficacy, but I am not an expert on that.
The social distancing thing in the lift lines is not quite dialed in at my local hill, but they do a very good job or reminding people to have their masks covering both mouth and nose. Lots of people just cover the mouth. Loading up is pretty straight forward with two singles on either side of a quad chair. I also have loaded single on an 8 person gondola. If you are not comfortable loading with anyone else as a single, all you have to do is say so to the liftie and the will give you your own chair. Although, I have not seen any skiers ask to load single on the chair lifts.
The one area that the ski resorts could do a better job of, is in setting up the lift lines with more distance laterally. They are only spaced about 1 meter wide. Though here in the States the lifties are generally pretty good about moving the lines in an orderly fashion, and they seem even more adept at it now. And routinely remind people to not crowd the turn styles before loading the chairs. They are going at a cadence that creates that 2 meter or more of spacing for the skiers.
I think that might be interesting to see how the Euro ski resort employees handle the lift lines, as that is not something that I have experienced in Europe with the orderly loading up of the skiers. People crowding and standing on your skis is the norm. So, they will need to work on that scenario.
I feel for the folks that don't live near a ski area and can not ski, and look forward to their annual ski trips. That is the major bummer and has to be very depressing. I just hope that next year things return to some normalcy.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It seems that: the Arlberg will go into a “hard lockdown” on 26 Dec, but the lifts will start turning on 26 Dec! Our friends are struggling to keep with the changes, flip-flops, and dubious logic. It seems that the rules are being made up on the fly.
Oh, East & West Arlberg are now split, as far as the lift tickets go. Must be different strains of corona!

Tbf that part is old news. However even under what they call hard lockdown (also the last one) people are allowed out to do individual sport in the open air for physical and mental health (ie skiing). While I’m obviously glad that’s the case, it’s not really what ‘lockdown’ implies.

German tourists cannot travel
Dutch Tourists cannot officially travel until Mid March
Scandinavia Country's there are all kind of travel restrictions.
Brits are not permitted to enter the EU from January 1st.
I think you can see where I am going with this .......there comes a time when reality hits home ...
and it is to bad because it is perfect Winter Conditions (Cold & Snow in Forecast)
Lets see what happens at the next Vienna Press Conference from Chancellor Sebastian Kurz
I have heard separately that discussions about Apres Ski for 2021/22 have already been discussed by the Government and folks should prepare for next season minus Apres Ski...
WK-President: Winter season "unrealistic" this year
This season looks bleak for winter tourism, says Tyrol's WK President Christoph Walser (ÖVP). One is "still miles away" from an opening. In addition, the expected end of the lockdown is "constantly shifting backwards".
In the worst case, an opening is not expected until Easter.
This would represent a 90 percent drop in overnight stays and a loss of value added of 5.2 billion euros, as well as the loss of 48,000 jobs.
"We still have February and March to save the winter season," Walser warned. Given the current situation, it is "unrealistic that we will even bring a winter season this year".
Over the border our nearest Northern resort neighbours (Germany) the latest opening has been set back to February 10th so if they do not open then it will be History..
Finally .. Weather... as mentioned above ...... Snow is on the way ...

The course looks superb. Hopefully the coming snow will not unduly disrupt the race, as it did in 2019. The town, and the people who rely on snowsports, need any wins they can get.
I should be airborne now, about 6 hours from Zürich, but alas our government had confiscated our passports. Sigh!

@ulmerhutte, sad isn't it, i'd be packing our bags this weekend and leaving next Friday for a double-header in Lech and Anton.
There must come a point when they will stop the pistes prep and snow-cannoning, whatever they do now will retain it beyond Easter but at what point do they throw in the towel and accept it's not going to happen, perhaps not yet but it must be on the agenda.
@Markymark29, I think everyone's waiting to see what the plan is on the 24th, as the previous plan included opening hospitality on the 17th, but obviously that got bumped a week The testing plan went in the bin, but there's been no more info as yet about what will open, when or how. I'm guessing there will have to be an announcement next week (though I thought hotels and restaurants were supposed to be given 3 weeks prep time to open, but maybe it's not that long).
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Markymark29, yes there must be a tipping point I guess where they decide enough is enough but it’s a while off yet I think
If they can get some decent custom in March and April it’s still better than nothing?

Easter is early this year (4th April) so suspect if many resorts aren‘t open for the feb hols then they won‘t bother with March.

I think the snow (decent accumulations) will come towards the end of next week (Friday) not how it is predicted here
From tomorrow many resorts in the Tirol will close lifts or drastically reduce service.. maybe just opening at the weekends..
and again on top of the chaotic scenes at Lift Stations yesterday the Austrian Health Minister has threatened to Close down Ski Areas
if there is any repeat today (Sunday)...
This is NOT in Arlberg but over on the nursery slopes in the Eastern Tirol (Kitzbühel) & Western Salzburg.

An interesting Story breaking here about the credentials of an organisation for Foreign Ski Instructors promoting "legendary candidate program".
Sounds Incredible that such Activities (Ski Training/Instructions ) are even permitted or how the travel by Dutch/Danish/English was even allowed. I know in Holland this would not be considered Essential .
Just two days ago the term used by the Dutch PM was "Anti Social " for anyone travelling.
Dear citizens,
Due to the current snow conditions, the following closures will occur:
From now on:
Toboggan path, Schöngraben from the toboggan stable
Verwalltal from the Mooserkreuz barrier
Stanzertal trail, Verwall trail
Vadiesen hiking trail
From 1 p.m .:
L68 Stanzertalstraße between the slip road S16 and Vadiesen.
Access to the S16 is still possible.
From 3 p.m .:
Arlbergpassstraße B197 between St. Anton Mooserkreuz and St. Christoph am Arlberg
Bus operation:
Line 2 St. Jakob runs along the federal road B197 - no service through St. Jakob
Line 4 Nasserein, line 92 St. Christoph, line 7 Pettneu closed

From a FB post: it looks like the lockdown has been extended to 8 Feb, but tourism & hospitality will possibly stay closed until March. Decision later in Feb.
There was no link to an official source, so class this news as unverified.

As has been said above and other Topics on this Forum
Yesterday Bundeskanzler Sebastian Kurz confirmed what all thought ...
Tourism is Closed until March 1st (earliest) .. That means all Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars ...
They want to try to reopen areas of society (schools ) and there will be another update..during February..this will include a decison about Tourism from March 1st.
Ski Lifts will be allowed to remain open .... therefore locals , day trippers from other regions of Austria.
However, IMO now the February Holidays are now cancelled for Tourists I expect the Ski Lift to drastically reduce service .....
Locals do not go out skiing 7 days a week maybe 1 or 2 at the most....
There is already noise that it will not be possible for seasonal Apres Ski Bars to open at all this season..it has now become uneconomic.
The StA Bürgermeister. issued this statement (translated by somebody on FB):
Quote:
Dear citizens,
there are increasing reports that foreign people are in town who are looking for work, pursue leisure activities, meet in groups, establish their place of residence and stay here. In addition, various information is circulating on the Internet about how foreign citizens can enter the country and how the ban on accommodation can be circumvented within the framework of the COVID-19 emergency measures regulations.
The Landeck district administration has been informed of this and has instructed the police to check this immediately (personal and accommodation checks). We cannot tolerate such communications, let alone facts and figures, and must be stopped immediately if they conflict with existing COVID-19 regulations and laws. The danger of a blanket denigration of the place, the landlord would be fatal. In this regard, you can cause great damage to the individual landlords, yes to the whole place.
We can only do it with a joint effort and everyone now has to pull together. Strict action must be taken against such interference and possible bypasses!
Sincerely, Mayor Helmut Mall.
