Bjorn_again_Daehlie, in Oz. First trip with our kids, who will be learning to ski... Hence me wondering what the slopes are like lower down!

Is skiing down to Oz from 5th April a given? Been to Oz many times in summer, so never skied there. It's on our long list for a return then.

Update on conditions as at 16 March 2014:
Plenty of snowcover in general. A few bare patches as you ski to your chalet door. The resort "tunnel" needs topping up most nights.
Snow quality up high (Alpette/DMC level 1 etc and above) all excellent. Signal suffering in the heat but snow cover remains good.
The run from Montfrais to Vaujany is slushy as hell! Ditto south facing runs down to the green runs of Auris.
Skiing to Oz is fine. Last bits are a bit slushy by the afternoon.

Just a quick update... 22 degrees in the sun today, apparently. It's definitely a time for skiing in the morning, relaxing in the afternoon, as the snow is like heavy icing sugar after about 1130. Having said that, there is still a lot of snow around, even if it's melting fast. The Tunnel and Sarenne were open yesterday pm, and fun. Runs to Oz are very soupy. More sun tomorrow and Friday, according to the Meteo. My suntan is better than my skiing.

Back from a week in Oz, which was wonderful, as ever. It was extremely hot Saturday to Friday, hovering around the 20 degrees mark. Saturday was colder, raining in Oz, but snowing up in AdH, and falling pretty heavily in the few hours we skied up there. By the time we left Oz it was turning to snow there as well, but was raining from about 1300 down.
All in all, the piste conditions for the week were great, considering the sun, very good if you were up early and high, but definitely in need of the snow that's fallen in the last 48hrs, as the brown patches were starting to appear lower down the hill.
Gutted to be home!

Heading down again on Monday after (hopefully) completing the Paris Marathon on Sunday. Looks like snow is still pretty good with some rain / snow forecast for the weekend.
Nick D, Hopefully see you down there.

Snow surprisingly good - follow the sun for clean crisp runs everywhere.

It was crap today. Loads of stones on the piste. It's the end of their season. We only went for the day from L2A which is so much better and the pistes are in amazing condition

k1orange, not sure where you were skiing. Maybe you came down the Sarenne when it was closed. Just back from a week with the family and the base of the skis were untouched. Sure it was hard in the morning and soup in the afternoon, but hey, it's spring. Super weather and great vibes all round. Even saw a group of very good skiiers coming down Perrins Bowl at an impressive speed. Roll on next season.

Thursday 17th. April and still plenty of skiing here, the effort they are putting in in the evenings with the piste bashers to keep pistes covered is imho admirable. Balcons, black from 2nd. marmottes, has been open last 2 afternoons and Tunnel was open this ( Thursday) afternoon, the start to which is a challenge indeed but after that a run in very good condition. Wall to wall sunshine due to give way to clouds on Friday for the Easter weekend but who knows.

Time to start thinking about 2014 / 2015. Have my season ski pass ordered and new skis. Time to start praying to the ski gods.

Suppose it would be rude for me not to 'check in' and 'watch' the topic. Passes, lessons for the kids all booked and paid for. 12 of us this year.
First time in ADH. Roll on January
